Wiper fault?
« on: April 18, 2010, 09:41:20 pm »
During the week i knocked the wiper stalk down to give the screen 1 wipe, and nothing happened. I tried again a few times and ended up leaning far heavier than i should have had to, and eventually it worked.

The next day it worked as it should, with just a light touch required.

However last night the same thing happened, and it didnt work everytime when leaning heavily. But also i knocked the wipers up and nothing happened at each of the 3 stages. Then again later on it returned to normal.

Anyone any suggestions?

There's the obvious suggestion that the stalk itself might be on the way out or the less obvious suggestion that the bonnet switch is intermittantly suggesting that the bonnet is open (wipers are disabled when the bonnet is open).  It seems this is becoming a relatively common fault ...

Any way to narrow it down or check the bonnet switch?

Did you notice if your windscreen and headlight washers were still working? I had a weird fault where the rear was wipe and front wipers worked but no flick wipe and no windscreen wash or headlight washers.

Was on the track of a faulty 20amp fuse, I36 I think but all fuses were ok. Anyhoo thefault cleared itself overnight. Reckon it was a logic glitch. it hasn't come back since.

Just thought I'd bump this up to see if anyone else had any ideas.

I'm working in Glasgow this year and don't know of anyone with VCDS, and it will be December before the car is home and I can get a mate to scan for faults.
