Swapping cluster lights from blue to White
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:32:59 pm »
Has anyone ever successfully swapped the blue of the instrument dials and the climate displays to white?

I imagine the latter shouldn't be too tricky, but what about the former?

Any info appreciated.

I think Darren will know (Mortygttdi) I think he once mentioned changing the white dot matrix display too (highline)

Aye, I can recall something about swapping the highline.

Sadly I just have a midline, but I'd settle for swapping the blue to white.

The blue light can be changed but it's a bit of a pig. There are these tiny mounted devices that are smaller than LEDS. You need to replace something like 20 of them.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Is that for the cluster?

I'll send him a pm, cheers Darren.

I've a mate that does vauxhall SMD conversions and has said if I can remove both parts he'll give it a go. From memory the cluster removal is quite easy, and I'm assuming the climate control is just the next thing to be removed after taking out the trim for a HU swap.

If I remove the cluster will it need recoding when i put it back, or is that only if you put a new one in?

I've done this on mine. Take a look in my build thread (link in my signature) for details. Not massively difficult but then it is easy to mess up if you aren't careful!
