My GTI was hit TWICE in the last month!
« on: October 14, 2010, 01:18:27 am »
So yesterday I stumbled across a hefty scratch on the side of the car. Second time in a month that I've gotten home from work only to notice damage. The dishonest c&%ts that are around these days is disgusting. Both instances would have occurred while I was in my office, and the car parked outside. The pic of the rear wheel arch dent isn't the best but needless to say is quite noticeable.

Any idea of what my options are in order to get it looking perfect again? Fuming from it.

Sorry to hear this.  I to have experienced the dreggs of society that like to hit people's cars and then drive off.  Mine required a brand new rear bumper!!

The damage looks relatively minor.  I'm sure you could get any dents in both of the panels tapped out.  A respray then would have this looking tip top.  I can't quite tell if the door strip is really damaged to the point it needs replacing or can simply be resprayed.

Try your local VW bodyshop and see what they quote...probably something horrific.  Sometimes it is good to gauge from them what needs doing.  If it is high then you could simply contact a dent removal specilaist firm who will come out and remove the dents.  You can then get a chipsaway type guy to come out and respray.  It depends on what you are happy to spend i guess.

Not everyone is happy to use chipsaway but i have used my local chipsaway guy for many years now.  Very good work and very honest about whether he could do something, whether it would look 100%, etc.

Good luck with the repair.

The top picture looks like paint transfer. I had to remove a similar mark from the sister in laws car at the weekend.

Try going over it with a clay bar a few times, then, if u have access to one, machine polish it back with a fairly high cutting compound.

Her car looked as good as new after, which was surprising as I thought it was a deffinate body shop job :)

Those pics are very similar to my damage liver. How much did that repair set you back?

I have heard of an auto crash repair specialist in the city who is supposed to be quite good. I might drop into them over the next day or so and get a quote.

Wow that's a lot more than I hoped for. Both of these could set me back silly money so? No money to be spent on her for quite some time if that's the case!

If im brutally honest,

If i hit someones car... and i knew i could get away with it... i think i would drive off... i couldn't bear the thought of a massive payout...
