What's my car really worth? Quick'ish' sale?
« on: October 17, 2010, 11:51:03 pm »
Hey folks, now don't say anything... As this is really just a feeler at the moment, I love my car I really do, so im just testing the water as such, I have something replacement-wise in mind hence why im asking this question, but thought i'd ask the guys in the know!

I didn't know where to post this, so mods feel free to move if needed.

My car is a Black 2005 '05' Plate 2.0T GTI, 40k miles, 3 Door, DSG, FSH, Interlagos cloth GTI seats, HPI clear (I have certificate from my own check earlier this year) it has the usual spec, but also has the following;

Cambelt, waterpump, DSG Oil & Filter change just recently done a couple of months ago at VW Main dealer, receipts for that etc
Cruise control retrofitted (with warranty) at VW Main dealer.
Multi-function steering wheel retrofitted at VW Main dealer.
Highline dash fitted (the best upgrade ever!!!)
18" Monza 2's (they need refurbing, as i've only recently got these) but 2 new tyres on front been done.

Replaced DV to the latest OEM version, replaced whitewormed boot badge to Mk6 version, and replaced wheel center caps to new versions to fix whiteworm.

Personally, I think the car is in brilliant condition inside and out and for a 2005, it's low mileage.

I've had the usual 'book' quotes on the car, but with every car i've owned in the past I don't think i've ever paid for or sold a car anywhere near book prices.

So what do you think the car would be worth if I was to sell it privately?

And yes feel free to make decent offers if anyones interested ha ha! :)

Thanks :)

£9.5K tops.

Compare with Pistonheads and Autotrader for guides. Depends what you mean by quick sale? :happy2:

i have a friend who has a garage (sells 50-60 cars month)this is how he does it ,first advertise on ALL relevant web sites autotrader, monster,e bay,etc second -1st week or so advertise at a strong price ,just in case its someones dream car ,if it has'nt sold drop the price to the cheapest price on the net for comparable cars, this price will still be higher than a dealer will offer in most cases.make sure when anyone calls about the car let them know that you know its the cheapest on the net. This is if he wants a quick sale

I think 9.5K is about right.  I paid 10.5K in July for an 05 Black 5DR with Leather and DSG and 45K form a VW Dealer.  Before that I'd looked at a lot of cars and a low milage 05 like yours (5DR not 3) was coming in at about 9.5 - 10K.

Hmmmm, thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.

In terms of the 9.5K i'd probably strip the extra parts (highline, stereo, 18' Monzas) off it if I sold it for that, as theres a few going round here for the 10k mark without the, ok not exactly 'massive' extras, but highline & cruise control are very handy to have.

I was only really weighing up if it's worth me switching cars to get heated seats & 5 doors, vs buying 2nd hand seats for the heated ones, and maybe waiting a year or two until my son is a bit older when the need for a 5 door is more likely.
