Great VW dealer experience shocker - cambelt and service.
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:35:41 pm »
Makes a nice change but today I had a great experience a VW main dealer, who I've not used for servicing before.

I had an intermediate service with cambelt and water pump done.

It'd called around and they had matched my best price of £450, but then a problem with trying to apply the discount on their system meant I ended up getting even cheaper!!!  :surprised:

The guys I spoke to seemed liked car enthusiasts - I turned up early to pick the car up and spent ages playing with and chatting about the demo Kenwood mutimedia sat nav and talking cars.

My mate has had good experiences there and the car was washed too! :)

I could have got it slightly cheaper at Awesome GTi, but they are miles away on the other side of Manchester.

Emeye what places did you get prices from that VW matched?

Was that £420 price an offer or was it price matched?

Wow, when I had mine done at Awesome earlier this year it was about 360ish for belt and pump.
Without traction power is nothing!

The quote I got from Awesome was for cambelt/pump and intermediate service - about £440 IIRC, so £360 for just the belt and pump seems about right. Awesome were doing a really good deal on servicing, and I would have probably gone with them if it wasn't such a trek to the other side of Manchester.

£420 is a great price!

To be honest the cheapest quote I got was from a local VW garage was £460/£470 ish. I just asked the other ones to price match at £450.  :innocent: Some refused, but luckily my local one agreed to do it.  :happy2:

Mine is in at SKF Stockport next week for cambelt & waterpump & MOT.  Only ever used the parts department there before and they were very helpful so hopefully service will be the same.

the £420 price i got was because last year when i had an MK5 R32 and took in for a service, they managed to kurb one of my wheels, they did offer to refurb it, but i was selling the car and the new owner didnt mind the kurbing so instead VW offered a £50 discount for me lasting 12months on anything i wanted, so i used it earlier today.  :happy2: As they gave me a good price on servicing and customer service was spot on, i ordered a US spec grille to treat myself  which arrives Monday :signLOL:
