apple's airport express works well to extend your network, very easy to set up if you have a airport extreme router

not 100% sure if it works with other makes of routers though
GTI Edition 30 - Reflex Silver now gone but not forgotten - Cooper S JCW now.

What channel is ur wifi on? Are there other networks in your area? Anything electrical near your router? Wireless telephones?

How far apart physically are the router and the device? What barriers are there between them?
Which router do you have? What is the signal strength? What channel are you on?

As above, what other devices are nearby? What other wireless routers are there? What channels are they on?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

hello all, its a belkin N+ wireless router, there is about 30 feet between the router and me, its in my parents house and i live in a converted barn,

it runs of a diffrent electical circuit so i cant use those plug in extenders,

nope no other wireless devices near by, and there are 2 insulated exterier walls between me and the router,

i have no idea what channal the wifi is on, how do i find that out??

signal strenth varies sometimes it says poor, fair or good, its never excelent and it varies without me moving

would this work of ebay??  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130434402535&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

thanks
tom

If you open your browser and in the address bar type 192.168.2.1 on the left (can't remember off top of my head) there is an option for wireless, it will ask you to log in when you click on this, as default there is no password so just click login, the screens you are taken to, don't change anything just keep pressing next and the router will restart. As your going through look for the channel option, there are 12channels for you to chose from, try 8 1st, then try all of them individually ans see if any of them improve the signal. If not you will need a wifi extender. Is there somewhere 1/2way between your router and laptop you can put one of these?

You could you a universal repeater somewhere in range to boost it further.

Draytek AP700 would work, used these myself in the past and they work great, you can have more than one and when setup as a universal repeater you can connect a device to the ethernet port too and it acts as a wireless client.
