New Ed30 Owner, 1st thoughts and a Quick valuation please
« on: October 18, 2010, 04:44:15 pm »
Hi,

First post (I'm going to do the hello post in the newbie section later). I have just taken a Gti Edition 30 in as a part-ex against my Boxster. Didn't really plan on taking in an expensive car as a p/x as I was selling the Porsche because I needed the money, but I've always had my eye on a MK5 and couldn't turn this one down, especially in Ed30 Spec.
Previously owned a number of Alfa's and always had good fun over at the alfaowner.com forum, so Ive come over here for more of the same.

Other than the 1991 MK2 16v Gti I had a few years back (which is now worth twice what I sold it for!) the only other hot hatch Ive ever had is the Alfa 147 Gta.
Initial impression of the Edition 30 as a comparison with the Alfa is that the Alfa is definately faster in a straight line, nothing short of £50k sounds better than the Alfa v6, and in my subjective opinion the Gta is better looking inside and outside (all a matter of opinion of course).
Other than that, the Golf feels far more solid, steering is weighted better and more progressive, certainly much more practical in terms of space and visibility and definately turning circle!!, definately cheaper to run in every way possible, rides better and I would suggest is probably quicker round a track.
Just an interesting comparison, the Gta is a rare car so I don't expect a comparison between the two has been done on here before.

Unfortunately, I still need that money that I sold the Porsche to get, so I will be selling the Ed30 soon. As I said above, I only took it in because it was a car that I actually wanted to own myself, so in a month or so once Ive had my fun (my last fun car for many years), it will be making its way into the Classifieds. I have a figure in my head of what I would like for her, but was hoping that perhaps some with more specific knowledge than me could offer an opinion. Spec is:

Edition 30 2008"08
Manual
15,000 miles
Black Metallic
Full VW Service History
6 months Tax
Mot not for 18 months or so
New Continental S/C's all round
Winter Pack
UK Car with Climate Control Etc
Only downside is that it's a Cat D, minimal damage, car was 6 months old at the time so Insurance company will have replaced it.

Sorry my first post is so long!
Cheers,
Iain

If it wasn't for the CatD you'd probably get around 16.5k for it but you'll need to knock a decent chunk off that to get anyone interested as it is.  :happy2:

agreed 60% of nominal non cat d value as a rough guide.
on the plus side seems low miles for a 08 car
