dear oh deer...
« on: October 18, 2010, 06:55:15 pm »
going through the lanes back home last night and a deer jumped out of the hedge right in front of me, at the speed i was doing it was either the deer or the hedge...so i chose the hedge! the whole near side of the car has been scraped mostly by prodtruding branches, its mostly worse on  the two wheel arches, I think the worst of it will polish out but its gonna need something pretty heavy duty I usually just use autoglym polish but have heard about 3m which can get scratches out pretty nicely, can anyone point me in the right direction as i dont wanna start using the wrong product. I think this is all gonna be in vain as it will need spraying but thought id save a few quid and try first! sorry about the sh*t pics, taken on my blackberry and the car is dirty.

You really need to seek pro help with that mate. Can you feel any of the scratches with your fingernail?

You'll probably need a respray if so

Oh my  :surprised:   I'm sure the deer would have made more damage though. I think I would have done the same as you and opted for the hedge.

Hope you get it sorted out mate.  :happy2:

pictures 1 & 3 are both smooth. picture 2 is almost definitely gonna need to go to the bodyshop but luckily its only the front bumper section which was recently sprayed anyway so hopefully then can blend it in...

what would you recommend to use on the lighter scratches?

I never really recommend people set about their own car with a machine polisher if correction is needed. Sorry mate. That's purely because I've seen too many mess ups and I don't want to be responsible for any.

+1 for respray if fingernail test positive.

You could potentially used something like stratchx or similar but I have no knowledge or experience of its use.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

i would of hit the wildlife personally, as it would be cheaper for me to sort my stone chips issue on the front bonnet using my excess to get it sorted :jumpmove:

Hope it polishes out  :happy2:
