« on: May 07, 2012, 08:01:58 pm »
Right guys thinking of buying one but need a couple of questions!

When buying it do they have a code to b switched on I.e four digit ones on aftermarket stereo
Also is it a plug and play into my golf I have the standard stereo with silver buttons
Also do I need a new ariel?
Lastly is the maps saved on already or do you need to have the DVD in there?

Thanks guys!

Yes they have a 4 digit code to put in
You will have to do some VCDS coding so it will work fully
as for the others im not sure some do some dont

Maps are loaded from a DVD onto the internal hard drive, so the DVD doesn't have to remain in the unit once loaded.

You can either buy an aerial adapter or remove the plastic around the existing connectors to get it to fit. The RNS has a twin aerial input that is closer together than the older standard units.

If you dont VCDS it there is a chance the CD wont play at all and you wont get volume when using the radio, no sound whatsoever, depends what it comes out of tho TBH

Ones ive seen have the code on a card, if the RNS has been in a car with amp under the seat then the coding will be a mile out, had the same thing on an Octavia today, apples sent me this and told me to try it and it works

code 060004400400002200 and that got the sound working, still cant get the MFSW to play ball and it doesnt see the MDI or Dension so not quite there yet
