Dsg gearbox problem

The dsg gearbox on my edition 30 has developed a loud clunking sound when changing down from 3 to 2 gear, when the engine is de accelerating to come to a standstill.
And after this clunk has happened it takes a while to re engage before the car moves with properly, like a delay.

Its also jerky when the box is changing gear between first to second gear and to third sometimes, so im thinking there is a problem with the gearbox mechatronics but the car is out of warranty by four months.

Im also running revo stage 2+ and stage 2 dsg software, any ideas will be appreciated.

If you have VCDS (vag-com) or someone near you. You can try a DSG reset. Not that hard but all info can be found on ross-tech.com

It would pay to do a DSG gearbox flush too. IF it's still not better after that. I'm afraid you will be in for a replacement of a mechatronics unit.
so expect around £4000 ish I'm only guess at this stage. In New Zealand they are $10000NZ for an exchanged unit.

I would do as said try the reset/re-calibration and depending on distance since fluid service consider that as well since it will be a cheaper option.  My next step in your case would be to go back to the revo dealer that did the dSG software and get them to try re-installing, or dropping to stage one or stock software before spending lots of money on a new mechatronic.  And at 4 month out of warranty if you do have a mech issue I would be thiking of temporary return to standard and see what good will gesture VW will consider!!!

I might get someone with VDCS to do a dsg reset, but wont that effect the revo software in the gearbox mechatronics?

The fluid was changed by VW about 3 thousand miles ago and this did not happen before they changed the oil, so i might try them and see if they can do anything and say it dident do it before. I might have to put the car back to stock first then try them.

I would put the stock dsg software back on, to see if its the map causing it.

Basic settings on vcds is worth doing.

I very much doubt anything major mechanical is wrong with it.

I wish I could have said the same, but from February this year till may this year. VW installed 4 mechatronic unit's in my mk5 TDI. Only done 50000km's by the time I was fed up and told them where to stick the car. Now drive a manual 6spd GTI instead. (funny thing thou, I want a DSG GTI now)

doing the basic setting reset wont affect your DSG revo map, all it does it put the fuzzy logic back to blank forcing it to re-calibrate the clutch positions and shift points, and start re-learning.

Certinaly worth a go before you have to revert to stock and start having discussions with VW outside of warranty.

Thanks Rich i will get in touch with my revo dealer who also has vdcs and get him to do dsg reset, before i try my luck with vw.

having experienced similar issues in my old ed30, my advice would be to remove all mod's before you approach vw for help

i was still under warranty when my dsg went wrong but running alot of mod's with stage 2+ and stage 2 dsg and they refused to fix it saying it was my fault for putting too much power through the box. i took it to vw hq and was told the same.

in the end I returned the car back to standard and I must say the dsg felt noticeably smoother. then before i traded it, It went for its 40k service and dsg oil change and when I got the car back I had no complaints with the gear box

if you havent had the dsg oil change then do that before you start resetting via vagcom, as they should do it as part of the oil change

I just had a DSG reset and it didnt cure the surging on my ED30. The Mechatronics was replaced and the invoice was £900 but that was paid by VAG  as it s still in warranty . £4k ??

Sounds almost certainly that the mechatronics unit has had it.

Have you had any luck with VW?

Certainly becomming more and more common especially with mapped cars.

I was guessing at price mate. Vw parts appear to cost approx 40% of NZ's pricing.
So I took it from what vw had to pay on my dsg. Many a times.

If they are only £900 here i might benefit from ordering and shipping them to new Zealand. Would so be worth my while.

Got the car booked in this week for a dsg reset so i will update if that's made any difference when that has been done.

But i have been driving the car around in manual mode, since mentioned by another member and it has relay improved the gear change in D mode, but the loud cluck is still there.

Will try VW if the noise is still present after the reset.
