Plasma burn removal?

Just bought an ex-display plasma screen but have found now it has a DVD menu stuck on the screen, not always visible but still annoying. How can I remove this? Manual just says it's not covered by warranty, various websites say it can be removed whereas others say it can't!?!?

Any ideas?

As far as I'm aware, ther is no way of completely removing screen burn. It's one of the reasons that LCD has taken over from plasma (along with much lower power consumption) in commercial environments

Nope - it's permanent phosphor burn on the screen

I'd return it mate. If its faulty then return it asap. Ex-display or not the item still has to be in working condition and the fault wouldn't have been pointed out at the of sale therefore you couldn't be aware of it until you took it home.

Agreed. Return it or it'll bug you forever!
It cant be reduced or removed. It will stay as it is.

place the screen on a blue screen and leave it there for like 12hours.

Get a snowy picture up, i.e. a channel thats black/white and out of range and leave it for at least 12 hours on normal contrast settings.

This can help "wash" or minimise screen burn.

Thanks for all the advice, it's not got any better so it's going back. Not a bad thing as the money was originally for a remap

It would take a lot longer than that to minimise the effect. You're talking hundreds of hours, not tens. But then bear in mind that plasma screens only have a limited lifespan and you're shortening the watching life of the screen. It may be a very long life to most but early plasmas had a 30,000 hour lifespan which is only around 3.5 years and many early plasmas were used in commercial applications were they were left on permanently for about 3 years so if you end up buying one that's been used in this way, it may not last much longer.

I took it back this afternoon for a refund, they offered me a swap to a brand new one the same but I decided to just keep the money for now. Thanks for all the advice
