ive done a little bit of fresh, but i grew up on the coast in plymouth so i prefer the sea fishing myself.  Getting out on boat over a wreck is the way forward.

Yes mate, been Carping for years and a occassionally bit of Fly fishing too.  I've not done so much Carping over the past couple of years due to one thing and another, but I had a Warrington Card for about 5 years, and fished Linear a few times (Hardwick).   Had a few nice Kippers along the way  :happy2:

I have been a serious carp angler since i was 11 years old (17 years ago) back when it wasn't so popular and a 20lb fish would make the front page of Angling Times. Now it is such a popular sport i dont do so much in this country and do most of my carping in France. In fact i just booked to go back to a lake in France yesterday for a week in April 2011.

I have now gone back to fishing for other species rather than just carp and inow enjoy river fishing much more than i used to. I am lucky as i live in Bournemouth and have so many great places within a 15 minute drive. River Stour is 2 min walk fro my house and Throop is a 5 minute bike ride. At the moment i am enjoying fishing Muscliff which is a free to fish part of the stour, i enjoy it for two reasons the first being its where i learned as a boy with a coulple of mates after school every evening and second its not fished much apart from chavs and kids so although theres not many fish you can winkle one or two decent ones out (took a 6lb chub on freelined break flake last week).

The thing that really annoys me though is talking to blokes who want/expect to catch big fish right away. The amout of people i come across who have all the latest expensive gear but know water craft at all is just funny.

It took me 6 years of hard graft and many many blanks days and nights before i caught my first 20 and over 10 years to catch my first 30 but hell i wouldn't change that for anything.

I didn't realise and it probably wasn't when i started many moons ago that "fishing" is the most participated sport in the uk, the flip side of that is as you said the amount of chavs that have no respect for other anglers, water craft and most importantly the fish. The amount of fish iv treated that have had lips hanging off etc is ridiculous. I dont do any real carp fishing locally now due to the lakes being chaved up, the constant lets cast as far as possible mentality drives me insane.

Once i caught my first 20 which also took 6 years of blanks and hard work i did the same and im lucky that one of my friends has a  membership on a long stretch of the rivers leading into and surrounding Bath, we could start 10 miles from bath and wade through most of the river leading to Bath and catch pretty much every type of course fish, If you have never caught a barbel, go for one, a 7/8 barble on light tackle will give just a good fight if not better than a 20lb carp!!

As for Carping though, linear complex is very good, had some bad press and some deserved but it has something for everyone, St Johns lake was my nemesis for such a long time, but it taught me to learn about water craft and fish behaviour.  Then at 4 in the morning in december this 28.8lb came along

Makes it all worth it!! Sh!t pic that one and im looking rather jaded!!

Linear, Monument, Sandhurst, Hourseshoe lakes are all some of my favourite all for different reasons :happy2:

LOL at Prepree. I don't know which one looks more stunned - you or the fish! :signLOL:

Lovely fish though.

You ought to see the Carp in the Sheffield canal now. There are some real monsters in there. I've been Carping a few times with the BIL who is a fanatic, but I much prefer sea fishing. Been fishing off Whitby and Bridlington quite a few times in the past, which reminds me I haven't been for a while. Used to love comng back from a trip and eating dinner at the Magpie Cafe in Whitby (best fish restaurant around IMHO). MIL used to cook up a great fish dish from my catches too
Golf R gone.

.
I got into beach casting (Chesil) when I lived in a house on the cliff (divorce took that away). Best fishing is at night and this time of year can bring Cod. I only fished for species I could eat. One of my best mates down here does it all, including rod repairs and making his own flies. He's a bit of an expert and is consulted by the local Environment Agency and other orgs - He doesn't work and fishes several times a week.

Can get very busy mate,  I fished during the week so wasn't too bad.

As other have mentioned here, there are idiots on the banks these days, had a bit of bother myself once in a while with leads flying into my swim and baitboats (aaaargh !).  some people have no respect or 'idea' about decent behaviour.

As for the 'All the Gear - no idea', 'lets get stoned and pi55ed' and the 'carp at all costs' crews.........   :fighting:    I'll fish somewhere else thanks !
