are you not better off with Tracker locate ?, only a few quid more and has the extra GSM to help?.........., actually I'm not going to say for security reasons, but it's a better option IMO

Tracker Locate is better than the Horizon, but both the purchase price, and the subscriptions are considerably more expensive.  And the insurance discounts are generally the same for either.

well, i went on these prices  below, where its only £10 more for the system and £10 more a year for subs, but i guess with the older systems being dated now they can be got cheaper ?

not sure if i would want a tracker tbh unless i could not insure said car . a mate had 1 on a cossy that got nicked a few years ago and it was turned off after 20mins of the car going missing . he also said he didnt want it back either as it would be a stolen recovered car (worth less ) i also remember when he was trying to get a pay out from the insurance that it took ages as they kept going on about the fact it had a tracker etc etc

Yes, I now see that the unit price of the Horizon and the Locate is only £10 difference (I've got the now discontinued Response on my RS, which is what the new Locate seems to be), but there used to be £250 more!!!  But I'm pretty sure there are errors in the subscriptions - mine is considerably more than what they are quoting!

You need to think outside the box, when referring to tracking devices and stolen vehicle recovery.

Firstly, the geniune Tracker units never get turned off after being activated.

Back to having a car stolen.  You'd pay an excess for the loss.  You'd be inconvenienced whilst the insurance company fannies around coming up with a decent settlement figure.  You'd have a 'total loss' claim recorded against you (most insurance companies really detest total loss histories).  You'd then have the inconvenience of finding a suitable motor in a short timescale.  Oh, and three months later, the same theives will prolly give you a second visit to have your new motor away.

But if you had a Tracker, you WILL get your car back - meaning you wouldn't have a total loss recorded.  You wont be inconvenienced by not havving any wheels, or having to find a new car at short notice.  You wont have all the hassle of arguing with the insurance company over a decent settlement.  When the car is recovered, the police invariably catch the scum who nicked it - hopefully giving them some porridge - and certainly deterring them from paying you a second visit.  OK, if the car got damaged - say scuffed alloys or bumpers, or maybe a ding or two on the wings or whatever - these can be repaired - and you'd probably still have an excess to pay - but importantly, the claim would be logged as a stolen vehicle recovery claim, rather than a total loss.  And if at the end of all that - and you don't want to keep the car - then YOU set the timetable - you decide when you sell it, you decide what a decent price for it is, and you retain being mobile for the duration.
