Extended Warranty - VW or other Brand - Do you have one?
« on: October 28, 2010, 03:31:54 pm »

My car is coming to the end of it's VW warranty.

Would you extend it?

Go with another Warranty company and extend it?

Not bother?

I use the car for business, and do about 20,000 business miles per year, so having a car on the road is a must

If you have an extended warranty, you usually have to have it serviced by a VW stealer.  Personally, I'd rather shove wasps up my ar$e, rather than letting VW stealers loose on my car!

I got an RAC Platinum warranty (got it as part when I purchased car from independent dealer).  It looks very comprehensive compared to some I've seen.  Might be worth checking out.  I was also close to buying a warranty for my Touareg from Warranty Direct (car now sold).  Got lots of advice and they came out top but only for their highest level service.  Also, their starting price was quite high but after a few phone calls they came down to £450 which was not bad considering it was a Touareg.

Would never drive a car without OEM peace of mind...

Do they (VW) let you go and buy one if the car is 5 years old for example? And without VW Service history? (but FSH)?

extended warrantys are an insurance product so make sure you read the terms and conditions .as an example several years ago the air con on a jag i had stopped working ,the warranty company would only pay for the part that was faulty.I had to pay the cost of stripping out all the bits to get to the faulty part plus the cost of putting them all back and the service kit to do it,maybe things have improved since then. Also out of curiosity i filled in the online forms of a couple of the warranty companies when i ignored their e mailed replies they rang me up with a better deal ,then they sent another e mail with an even better offer!

I don't think VW dealers are allowed to sell cars without FVWSH.  (Nor are they allowed to sell non-official UK cars - but that didn't seem to stop VW Ipswich!)
