Help epc light on and no power
« on: October 29, 2010, 10:21:00 pm »
when i pulled out a junction and changed into second it was like the power cut from the car and then it was like the revs were being limited and would struggle to get past 3000rpm and when it was above that it felt like there was no boost is it the engine limiting the revs for some reason or is the problem bigger like turbo gone or that its a 2005 golf gti with 76k miles anybody help me out

Yes - the car goes into "limp" mode when there's something wrong.

We need a clearer discription plus is your car manual/dsg?

Given that it's out of warranty, I'd say have a look at the VCDS register and see who is the closest to you and get it scanned for faults. Could be anything.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

its a manual and one of my mates has vagcom so he should be able to scan it for me
so its not likely to be a turbo problem then if the car is meant to do this when something is wrong

yup no power above a set rpm and a top speed.

could be 1 of a million things, as small as a sensor or as big as your engine was stolen and replaced with a hamster.

Anything other than a fault scan is speculation so as above get your mate to help out.

With your broken oil cap sagas, me thinks it is something to do with incorrect pressures in the crankcase ventilation - which will lead to errors in the air/fuel mixture.

But as others have said, get it scanned with VCDS asap - and then post your fault codes.

Haha - I've done that - ONCE. :ashamed:

And your oil consumption is well within spec and reasonable tollerances. :happy2:

what would cause this problem and would it be an expensive fix
