With regards to the oil cap, I had to replace one because the 'handle' part at the top if you will split from the bottom part which effects the seal.  It wasn't leaking or letting air in or anything just very difficult to take off becuase you had to push down hard to make the thing turn.  Is this what the OP means rather than the sealing part has failed?

well the only thing that ive noticed weird under the bonnet is the oil cap has split in two again 3rd cap now is it possible the top half could have came off and hit summit and caused a fault

yeh the top part keeps coming off but the actual cap itself is still in the hole lol i need pliers to get it out

I think he's been misinterpreted here ...

Sure its not p2293?

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/18725/P2293/008851

I have seen this a couple of times, both times was fuel pressure sensor at fault.

the problem is the sensor on top of the fuel pump has cracked because of the engine cover hitting it because the mounts are broken the pump has to be replaced as a unit to fix this  i took a pic on my phone of the damage so the picture is not very good
so anybody with a loose engine cover dont just ignore it or it could cast you a fortune now im having to buy a new engine cover and a new fuel pump to fix the problem and ill be getting a new oil cap when i get the new cover on so if you have had problems with your oil caps breaking check that you engine cover is not hitting off your fuel pump

Can you borrow an engine cover from someone??

If not try the bay or a scrappy.

New cover is quite expensive as it includes a MAF.

If you buy an R8 cap from a dealer then you need to open it up to orientate the markings correctly - Quite simple though.

Some places such as awesome sell them already modified.
