With your broken oil cap sagas, me thinks it is something to do with incorrect pressures in the crankcase ventilation - which will lead to errors in the air/fuel mixture.

But as others have said, get it scanned with VCDS asap - and then post your fault codes.

what would cause this problem and would it be an expensive fix
Your crankcase ventilation system is linked into your inlet manifold - any leaks anywhere in the intake system will really mess up the air/fuel mixture, therefore messing up the overall running of the engine, and ultimately throwing a warning light on the dash and will make the engine go into 'limp home mode' (where the engine feels utterly gutless, and wont rev over 3,000 rpm).

Cant the bluefin handset get the codes from your car? I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Which fuel pump?  The car has two very different pumps!

Me thinks if the AA diagnosed it with VCDS (aka VAG-COM) - then it is probably the in-tank low pressure fuel pump.

Dont blame the mechanical HPFP immediately, i have seen this fault caused by various other components. I would reccomend finding a local specialist that can help, or a member on here that has vcds that can take some logs and post up any fault codes.

If it mentioned fuel pressure - then I'd stick my neck out and say it is NOT the pump.  More likely to be the fuel pressure regulator, of which there was a recall-type service action.

i had that sensor go but had no issues like above all i had was a massive flat spot from 4k up , i would be a little more concerned about splitting 3 oil caps , something is pressurizing (head gasket , worn rings ?)

fault code p2294 fuel pressure sensor open circuit or bad connection

any help i got this from my local garage they ran their diagnostic machine on it not vag com i cant get any1 to scan it with vag com
and i think the oil cap thing is due to my engine cover being held on my one mount as whoever serviced it last snapped the others off so there is a bit of movement in the cover possibly knocking against the oil cap
