Does anyone know where the hec the CAN gateway unit is located on a 2007 car?!

Cant find it anywhere near the pedals or the fuse box.

Its towards the centre console side and UP if you know what I mean. You will see it easier if you are on your back  :surprised:
Bye Bye Edition 30.

Changed mine earlier on today.  If you sit in the drivers seat it is in line with your left knee.  If you shine a torch under the steering wheel housing you can just about see it.  I managed to change mine without removing any trim in about 10mins!

Just realised you asked about a 2007 car, mines a 2006.

How the hell did you manage that?!? I removed the entire dash below the steering wheel before I could get to it!  :sad1:

Reached up above the pedals, squeezed each clip in turn & pushed up at the same time to release the controller from the bracket. I then realised the bracket was clipped onto a bar so unclipped that which then enabled the bracket & controller to pivot downwards. Released the plug & then reversed to refit the new one.

Mines a DSG so not sure if having a clutch pedal makes any difference

It's classic overcompensation.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

There are 3 different locations depending on the year of manufacturer, on early cars like mine it is above the brake pedal. Later cars are either behind the fuse box (in a space above and to the right of the accelerator pedal) or underneath the ash tray in the centre console (I think you access this from the side rather than removing the ash tray). Look for the red cable connector plugged into the CAN gateway to help find it.

Mine is a 2006, and this is where it's located.  It's looking through the gap between the steering wheel cowling and the lower dash panel above the foot rest/brake pedal on a DSG.

The bracket is clipped onto a bar further along to the right.  If you unclip that it will pivot downwards at the point shown.  There is a clip each side holding the controller to the bracket which need to be squeezed together to release.  The red plug is the gateway connector.

It's not the easiest thing to get a photo of without removing bits of trim but hopefully it will help you out.

I'll try and get a better photo if needed when it stops raining.

Cheers chaps.
Finally found the f'er.
It was way behind the fusebox on the drivers side.
Looks like they changed it on MY07 cars onwards, mine was a 06 GTI.
