Do Edition 30s prefer V-Power over Ultimate?
« on: November 02, 2010, 10:50:56 pm »
This might be in my head... but i filled up with Ulimate a few days ago, and i thought my car felt pretty flat esp. in 2nd gear.

Then put 1/2 tank of Vpower in when the Ultimate had ran out... felt a lot more responsive!

Now... it probably is in my head, but was just wondering if anyone else noticed a difference?

Yup, not compared it with that nasty expensive BP Pikey fuel but mine does run better on VPower compared with Tesco 99!  :happy2:

my ko3 is definitely happier on v power, not just performance wise, its alot quieter smoother and less tappity at start up and idle on better fuel.

Mine always gets Tesco 99, Mainly due to having a tesco close to me, and the nearest shell garage is quite a way from me plus its a small one so the optimax doesnt get used very often so sits around and seems to run worse than the momentum  :happy2:, if you do buy shell make sure its a busy one so the fuel does not sit around to long because if if does your pouring money away IMO

Hi Rich,

just to bring more options to the table - i use Sainsburys Super unleaded for 3 fills and then 1 fill of V-power. I used to be a fan of Tesco 99 Ron but actually rate the Sainsburys stuff over Tescos now.
Maybe worth giving it a try?

Just my 2 pence

I would put momentum and vpower equal from my personal experience.  Never noticed any difference between them tbh.

I've not used the sainsburys stuff in the mk5 (as its not 99 ron) but it was the only 'super' unleaded that I used that made any tangible difference to my old mk4 1.8T (it was set up for 95 ron).

I used BP Ultimate years ago and felt no difference compared to normal fuel, changed to V Power and been very happy with the results. TBH, I don't think you can feel it straight away. The ECU needs to get used to it before you reap the rewards. Some say that it's one full tank which seems about right to me.

Edit: I don't have an ED30... However all MK5 GTIs run better on super unleaded. It even says so in the manual!

I used to find that V-power gave me more grunt, especially when fresh but Tesco's gave me better mpg.

However where I live in Brum, I'm surrounded by V-power.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

if you are going to switch then you ideally need to run the tank near empty say with 5 or 0 miles left on the trip comp otherwise the higher ron rating fuel will become diluted, and as mentioned it will take time for the ECU to register the higher quality fuel and adjust timing, fueling and boost to compensate.  If you read the information carefully, the engine only kicks out 200ps on 99 ron fuel anything else will cause knocking and the engine will have to pull back to bring the combustion cycle within spec.

Another Tesco and V Power man over here. Normally find that she runs better on Tesco on the bum dyno, but hard to tell TBH. Definately feel that I get better MPG on the Tesco's too..

Mine doesn't really care it just likes any.  :ashamed:

Having said that though it seems better on the V-Power or Tesco Finest despite the inside of the fuel cap saying 95.
