Revo vs Bluefin

Can someone summarise the main differences / advantages disadvantages between the two as am not sure what to plump for my standard Edition 30 (manual)

Am i right in saying that with Bluefin, as you do it yourself you can just quickly change back to stock before it goes in to a dealer and therefore your remap wont be flashed/tampered with whereas with Revo you might need a technician to re set it for you?

Also, is it true or an old wives tale that the Revo remap can reset after the battery has been disconnected or if you have been using cruise control for a period of time? 

Do they both give about 290-300 BHP for stage 1?

Revo is set up for your car, on your car by a trained specialist. If you plan on further mods then Revo is far more flexible due to its adjustability. It can be ste to a standard spec map using a switchable unit or returned to fully stock map by any revo dealer. I have never had a map switch back to stock after a battery disconnect on any of my customers or my cars, same for the cruise control.

Bluefin is a one size fits all DIY affair. When we test them they tend to be less punchy in power delivery than REVO, but thats more of a personal preference from driver to driver. Bluefin only flash partial maps so a dealer will still be able to detect it if returned to stock mode using the handheld unit.

REVO have a national support network with knowledgeable technicians in every part of the UK which I feel is a big benefit.

Both can be overwritten by a dealer ... and then need putting back on by either a Revo or Superchips agent.

The Superchips Bluefin unit hold a copy of your actual map from your car along with an uprated map.  You use the device to reflash the ECU on the car with whichever map you choose.  When standard you have reloaded your own original map.  The Bluefin device resets the flash counter to whatever it was before you reflashed ... so it isn't obvious you have been using the device   :wink:   The unit also clears fault codes that were generated during the remap process as they can indicate a car may have been reflashed / mapped ...

Revo overwrites your original map on the cars ECU with a standard map (their version of your std) and an uprated map.  You can use a switching device to move between the Revo map and their standard map.   Revo is more adjustable if you add further mods like a TBE etc.

There isn't really much to choose between the two but I think most people on here like Revo.  I had Superchips Bluefin on my Edition 30 DSG and loved it.  A superb map  :laugh:  I had superchips put it on for me and my car (on their rollers) before was 229bhp and after 299bhp.  It makes a HUGE difference .... and I miss it having stupidly sold the car a yea ago :(

Cheers chaps.

I dont really plan to do massive further mods ie go to stage 2. I have never modded a car before (had standard 1.6 205 Gti and standard Mk3 8v Gti previously) so am a bit apprehensive i suppose in some respects of messing with what is already a good car. So I could Bluefin it and then just stick S3 brakes and better suspension on it. Really I just want to be able to surprise a few of the boy racer brigade who paint white stripes over the roof and make it more fun to drive.

....I have had Revo for several years now on my 06-build 05-plate Mk5 GTI and it has always reset itself to a 'stock' map every time my battery has been disconnected (lots of times). It's not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

Bluefin vote here, its a good map, as long as its loaded and the correct Transmission type is sent from Superchips in the 1st place.   :ashamed:

bluefin is spot on stage 1. But I had planned on staying stage 1 only. Now I'm considering stage 2+. So looks like I'll be paying twice and getting revo next year, so bear that in mind............................

Revo is too aggressive imo

Bluefin and APR are less aggressive and better suited if your not planning going no balls 2+
