Okay. Got the exact name of Golf so hopefully you can shed some light...Golf GTI 2.0 T FSI Edition 30

Not sure if all GTI are FSI or even what that means.

TFSI is the type of engine, the GTI and ED30 both basically share this design although the ED30 has a few mods to help its extra power output

Cheers. Can't wait to test drive it. Exact price is £12,995. If anyone can give me any tips to bargain down the price that would be great. Going to do the usual and look for dents, scratches, wear and tear etc.

How much warranty will I get on this car. Probably just the one year. Anyone else here haggled for a year and a half warranty?

This could be my perfect car!!! :jumping:

what year is it?

yes check the usual crash damage, condition etc, but have a good look at tyre and brake condition, if these need replacing it can add up. Overall condition can give you a good idea of how the car has been looked after, always go with your gut feeling if something doesn't feel right it probably isn't

4yrs/60k miles for the cambelt (although no one really agrees on this!)
(although many , including me have had it done early under warranty to resolve 'squeaking bird' noises on cold startup)

Id be checking previous owners to see if has been remapped at any point previously.
These cars respond very well to a remap with huge gains, the flip side being increased wear on various components.
Id specifically mention the clutch! (which to be fair are pants on std cars as well)

check the owner has run it on longlife oil but on a time and distance regime (a good sign)
what make of tyres ? (new ones are a min £100 each for a good make), worn evenly?
wheels if marked are difficult to colour match so dont think you can just touch them up

check panel gaps and colour match (red is hard to respray to match) , should have some stonechips if not why not?
do an HPI and ask about stolen/recovered specifically.

insurance isnt cheap (esp so for a remap/mods)

like any car Id have some money in reserve for any 'issues' which can be used for 'mods' if nothing goes wrong  :signLOL:

They are fantastic cars that are very resilient but also have a few achilles heel points. keeping it standard is a crime  :innocent:

hth
John

also what extras does it have? some can be retrofitted , some cant.
if you can get some pics up, as the usual suspects on here may be able to spot 'issues' you may not be aware of  :happy2:

Hi Crashdesk.
I brought my GTI ed30 two weeks ago now and i can honestly say that if you do get one you will not be dissapointed.I have owned a few VW's over the years, my last being a mk4 V6 Motion and and i could not believe the difference in performance between my previous cars and an ED30. :driver:
Go get one and enjoy it.

Will take some picks tomorrow when I test drive. I will check all the points mentioned as well. Thanks everyone!

Wanted to get insurance off GreenLight as they were cheapest, but they say you need to have been driving a performace car for one year previously.  :sad1:

Sounds a good enough price to me mate.  :happy2:

What spec is the car? Any extra's?  Xenon's, Tints, RNS, etc, etc.

Try and get some photo's up of the exterior and interior.

You're gonna love it.

The advice on this thread has been fantastic and is helping me out loads!

Sorry to hijack the thread a little bit, but Im in the same situation as Crashdesk, looking to buy a ED 30 in the this month, I have found two so far which I have perked my intrest.

My budget and conditions are £14000 and has to have DSG - 5 dr if possible but will settle for 3dr and around the 50000 mile mark otherwise its too many miles for a 07 -08 car.

I live in Kent and my postcode starts with TN3 so a car in the south of England would be best and so far the cars below fit the criteria best.

Im a bit worried about the car below, not much information on it and seems very low millage for the prices and there could be something hidden  :scared:

Thanks for all your help and information so far.

Richard

@Resonance : might be better to start a new thread so you get full replies and we arent cross posting  :happy2:

of the 2 cars I'd also ask about cambelt on both.
exhaust tips on both look dirty which hints that owners dont 'care' that much for the cars  :signLOL:
second car has bad drivers seat bolster on rhs, they all go bad to some extent but that looks bad for miles/yrs
(mine has 45k and isnt that bad and I'm not a small bloke!)

Thanks for the tips so far, I have created a new thread called "The hunt for a ED 30".
