MK5 Edition 30 pruchase advice

When I bought my GTI it was priced at £10k. Didn't manage to haggle too much, but did manage to get £300 off asking price, and 12 months tax, which basically gave me £500 off asking price. I did not ask for extended warranty, as I modded it as soon as I get home, and some places can argue that it invalidates the warranty (even though it apparently doesn't, unless the modded part is the one that caused the fault in the first place, but some garages would argue the point)

Okay. As promised. This is make or break.

When asking for a finance quote VW sneakily tried to get me to pay for two years of servicing adding £254 to the total price, but I got wise.

What I want to do is go back with a set price and all the information you guys give me. I would like to get the car, but for the right price. I will be happy to walk away and drive my MK3 CL for another 2 years.

Some points...
Front fog covers have few bits of paint off to black plastic. Just stone chips. All other paintwork in good condition
Passenger door appears not to be flush at the top but rubber seal is perfect at very top
Exhaust dirty
Edition 30 sticker in door sill looks cheap and as if it wasn't stuck on properly. I though these door seal plates were thin sheets of metal. This just looks like a thick foil sticker.

Car was bought from this VW deaker 3 years ago and has been serviced every year. They traded for a new car. HSI is clear.

Let me know your thoughts and if there are any bargaining areas.

They quoted me £234 a month for 5 years. That's with the trade in and £3000 deposit. Seems rather steep! That totals £14,040 + my £3000 deposit totalling £17,040 over the 5 years!!!!!! Surely I must be able to twist their arm as this seems rather excessive?

It'd be better to get a personal loan via your bank than to pay finance.

Stone chips can be made near invisible if done correctly.

The sill strips are just foils - not metal plates! Hence can be replaced - get the dealer to do it.

Can't comment on the door.

Will check a bank loan on Monday to see how their fare. Thing is I have an MOT check on Tuesday for my MOT Test on Saturday. I don't want to spend unnecessary money.

Think I might get them to throw in a free timing belt change next year. Worth a shot.

I assume this is just a standard ED30. Could I get a better deal with the security of a warranty if I wait?

the only thing I would be suspicious of is that the front looks too good for a car with 33k miles. the front spoiler usually takes the chips hard.
are the stonechips consistent across the front of the car?

any more of the car complete from other angles?

exhaust may be past saving , but most of the time you can get the finish back, if not just get a cat back 

what spec does it have? dependent on that it may be a bit expensive

Just normal spec. No winter pack or anything like that.

Sadly they are the only photos. What other angles or photos would provide you with better info? I will try and get more pics on Monday evening.

The previous owner was a doctor and I don't think it was thrashed. There have been no accidents as far as I can see.

Be good to get your advice on what it is actually worth so I can go back to them with a final amount that I would be willing to pay. Mileage is legit from what I see in the log book... and I think pretty good for the price?

Apologies, but I had to bump.

Been looking at the other ED30 thread with some good tips. I have to get this straight in my head today so I can approach VW tomorrow. Pleeeaaase help.


I am going for a price of £12,000 (that's with the £425 off for the MK3) so I will say I want the car for £12,425.

The other threads states that there were some optional extras which aren't included. Is the current price good for not having these or could I pick up a similar ED30 with the optional extras and low milage for a similar price.
