Hi,

I'm a new member. I'm about to buy a Golf GTI for my other half, I don't really know much about these cars (my current car is a BMW M6) but I have always liked them a lot. I have seen two cars that I'm interested in and wanted to know what you guys think.
The first is a 2004 Red
GTI
SatNav
Heated Seats
Folding Mirrors
DSG
Xenon
53k miles
17inch alloys (better for the wife) harder to kerb
Price: £9000
The second
2006 Black
SatNaV
Folding Mirrors
Xenon
DSG
37k miles
18 inch (not good for the wife) easier to kerb
Price: £10000
The first one has done more miles but we both prefer the colour, as the mileage is 53k what would I need to check on the car? What major service would it need at that mileage?
Thanks a lot .

At 7 years old and 53K miles it should need a cambelt and fuel pump changing If not already done. (about £380to fix,do it before the VAT goes up though)
Also the obvious, look out for the usual damage/respray work, that all doors are straight.
Have also been told to look at things like condensation in rear light, though this is a pretty easy fix if it should occur.
I think they both sound like good models, with a nice spec, and at a decent price too.
Though after owning a black Mk3 before my current motor I would not own another black car, looks nice once washed, but turn your back and you feel like it needs doing again.

DSG would be the first thing to check - Have a read up on the Mechatronics issue.

Perhaps if you have links to the cars online post them up and let the super sleuths here have a look over them  :happy2:

Think that was meant to be water pump and not fuel pump :happy2:

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply. How would I know If the cambelt and waterpump has been changed? Would it say it in the service book?
