Low MPG!!

Hello,
     I own a 2005 Mk5 GTI DSG, the computer is now telling me 18.9mpg!!! had the car 3 months highest i've seen it is 23mpg,the cars running well,the sevice book is up to date,took it on a 10 mile run driving it like my mom to see how high i could get it 22.5mpg was all i could get,i don't drive it hard (responsible 31 year old!!) used V-max and tesco momentum (99 RON) fuel Had Golf's all my driving life 1.8T,VR6's,but this is really making me wanna swap to diesel sadly beacuse i love everything else about the car!! Hope someone can help me with this problem, cheers.

Assuming its not all stop start traffic with a cold engine there is something wrong there.  Would suggest you get it scanned for fault codes / booked into a garage.

Yeah it is a bit of stop/start but really struggling to get above 20mpg is a bit disappointing,read other threads about faulty DV's e.t.c ,but reading about people with Re-maps getting over 30mpg makes me feel sick, lol! Defo needs to go into garage,cheers.

Def something wrong. I do lots of short journeys, lots of fun drives and with a stage 1 revo map it never drops below 28mpg. Easy 340 miles to every tank

I'll have to fill the tank see what i'm getting....how true is it of re-maps improving mpg??

Mine hasn't changed, you don't in theory push it as hard so should save fuel but in truth you just enjoy it more

Ive noticed my golf really suffers from bad MPG in colder weather, its on the way down just now.

a remap will see a good hike in mpg, it did for me. :smiley:

Yeah it's just had new 18" S-line wheels with new tyres,i've tried all the cheap and easier options,worried about it starting to cost now!

Usually on my daily commute (mixture of B roads, motorway and Dual Carriageway), I get "about" 27.6mpg. On the way to work its usually slightly higher and closer to 30mpg, mind you its down hill most of the way there  :signLOL:

When having fun it hovers around the 22 mpg mark.

What mpg readings are you getting from the number 2 trip computer?

had to go for a spin just to check  70 on m way  31mpg   on way back 22 mpg  feet was a bit heavier on way back
