Usually on my daily commute (mixture of B roads, motorway and Dual Carriageway), I get "about" 27.6mpg. On the way to work its usually slightly higher and closer to 30mpg, mind you its down hill most of the way there  :signLOL:

When having fun it hovers around the 22 mpg mark.

What mpg readings are you getting from the number 2 trip computer?
19.1mpg on number 2 at the moment,i may as well gone for an R32 surely that would'nt have given much less!! ha.

You need to go and get the car checked out. You should be seeing above 25MPH for normal driving. And i can't see how a re-map is going to solve your problem.   :happy2:

I've definitely noticed a drop in my mph since the cold weather which I put down to the use of heated seats etc so tried ny usual run with everything off and its still dropped from about 37 mpg to around 29 mph. You would think it would do better with the cold air being denser. Even so if it dropped to the low twenties I'd being getting it booked in at the dealers.
I also went through a winter with a faulty DV and my mpg never went that low. When it.was replaced I did get an improvement but only a bit.
I'm not sure how the computer works out the mph etc but is it possible a sensor is at fault causing a duff reading?

Just so you know....... my mkV r32 always returns 30 > 32 MPG on a 45 mile stretch of motorway I do.
I have no mods but do use my cruise control @ 70MPH (GPS) / 74MPH speedo

:surprised:

Who drives a GTI below 25mph? Anyway, sounds like a problem. I get sub-20mpg figures if I keep my foot down but on the motorway at a steady 62mph (I think - keep the car at 3000rpm in sixth gear) and you should be seeing high 30s, maybe even 40+mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Cold weather always affects the MPG becuase the engine has to run richer for longer to get up to temp.

Have you calculated it yourself running with a full tank down to the reserve?

AS mentioned forgetting what the computer says how many miles are you getting out of a tank?  the computer can be adjusted with a correction factor and shouldnt be taken as accurate its just an indicator.  I always expect 25-30 mpg on short journeys, and 30-35 on long journeys depending on traffic conditions and speed I sit at.

Worth getting a scan done with VCDS if you dont have it then check out the register in the VCDS section the people on the list will within reason be up for meeting up and scanning the car for you, maybe even some logging to check how it runs.

Suggest that for a better comparison, you should fill the tank, zero the Number 2 mpg reading on the dash, and drive normally. The number 2 reading gives a running average, so that by the end of the tank, you'll see what you've averaged throughout. It's a bit more objective than the running average.

If you have an iphone, I recommend you invest in 'Road Trip' from the app store. You can get a lite version free. Input each tank as you go & it will give a running average. It also keeps track of costs, fuel, expenses, servicing, tyres etc. A cracking app. I've been running it since March 2010 and my running average is 30.2mpg, best of 34.6 from a tank, and a worst of 27.57mpg. I have seen 40.1 from the instantaneous reading.
