Oil change help

Morning Folks,

hope you are all well 

After recently discovering the stealers used quantum Platinum oil for the service on my car in Aug, ive decided to get the oil changed for Castrol Edge 5w 30. Ok, it might seem over the top, but im gonna wait til ive covered 5k miles since the service before changing the oil. I just want the peace of mind knowing that the oil running through my engine is the best i can give it.

Anyway, National tyres are doing are great offer on an oil change using Castrol edge 5w 30 - just over £30, that includes oil, filter and labour. I had to check twice (its on their website).

Ive heard on another forum that they re-use the oil sump seal thingy and supply with a non branded oil filter.

would it be wise to buy a sump seal from the stealers and get national to use the new one?
Again, for the oil filter, i take it the oil filter national supply would be ok or best but one from the stealers?

Anybody have prices for the two items?
Is there anything else that needs to be changed when carrying out the oil change?

Both parts should be sub £10 for both.  VW stealers should have both in stock too.

Can't be more specific as I don't have my Etka with me.

Sump and seal £1.50 + Vat
Oil filter £9 something + Vat

Even with these on top of the price, its still cheaper than going halfrauds for the oil!!

Hi Rich,

Its ok, but its not the best. Ive trawled through so many threads and the general gist is that the Ed30 or indeed the GTI should be using Long Life Oil regardless of what service regime you are on. Long life oil is better quality oil and Platinum is a time and distance oil. The TFSI engines should only get the best and platinum isnt it.
Im not an expert but that's what i read.

I woudn't take your car anywhere near one of those places.

A) As Nasir said, they won't use your supplied parts, only their own.

B) They have no idea what they are doing (most of the time) after I called 2 local branches I was told my GTI needs a 'special oil' and that they can't do it.


...Even if they could I doubt i'd trust them to do it properly, they'd probably leave the sump plug loose!

.........x2 save in the short term but in the future!!!!!!!!.There cheap for a reason.

Did you notice they charge extra for taking the plastic engine protect tray off !!
