New Cambelt
« on: November 09, 2010, 06:43:46 pm »
Anybody know what the official or recommended milage/time scale is for a new cam belt on a  ED30. Hand book says first timing belt at 60,000 miles. Car is 3years old this week,  only done 13,400 miles. Just had a service and was told it needs new cam belt next year. Is this about right or are VW taking the pee. Cheers for any feedback. Chris

............no problem. It's recomended to have the water pump changed at the same time BUT i would get them to check your's first due to the low miles.  :happy2:

My Local VW dealers are doing belt and waterpump for just £312.63 at the moment. (customer was quoted this)

seemed a good price so I called and checked and it was correct, so try and haggle a price match (it is Pullman VW in Sunderland)

Youll be looking at about 300ish for cambelt and water pump from a specialist.... or 399 at VW!

Mine needs doing too in Feb..... not looking forward to that one!

I read somewhere that it used to be 5 years on VW's also but they changed it to 4 years due to excessive failures. Not sure why Audi's are still on 5 years with the same setup though.

You should supply the parts yourself and get them from a parts guy based in Belfast, cant find his previous posts but maybe somebody else can or PM me and i will give you his details.
I just had a Timing belt kit, water pump,5ltrs Gold LL oil,oil filter, sump plug & 3 ltrs anti freeze for less than £160.00 & all genuine VW parts.

Thanks for all the input  :happy2:, VW have quoted £399 to do the belt & water pump. So probably go with that when its due.
