Nice one! Good to hear you sorted it out.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Just took mine to VW Newcastle on Scotswood Rd.  The Warranty Manager was spot on.  I pointed out the 'rust' on both front wheel arches.  I said it was the first Gti he'd had back the ones he'd seen were all diesels.  Apparantely VW don't actually see it as 'rust' it's down to the inner wheel arch liner as previous people have said on here rubbing the paint away and it would only be covered from a warranty point of view within 3 years of date of registration.  However VW do sometimes repair things like this via a goodwill gesture so would put my claim in.  This I think is where people with FVWSH get an advantage - which lucky for me I'm one of.  I had a good chat to him and I put my point of view across that I should get a goodwill gesture of 100% to pay for the damage as my arches had just started to bubble, my car had FVWSH and only covered 46K hence if the rubbing is the cause it's happened over a relatively short distance.  He also said I should hear something by the end of next week.  I keep everyone posted.

@DOVEJON did your motor have FVWSH?  How much did you have to contribute if you don't mind me asking?

Andy

Just to update everyone.  Got a call from the warranty manager today and the work is going to get done free of charge!!  :jumpmove:

It's only been just over a week from start to finish - One point to note the Warranty Mgr at VW Newcastle, Lee, was a top bloke very friendly and helpful.  Cannot praise him enough  :congrats:

If I ever have a problem again that's where I'll be taking it.  They have restored my faith back in VW products.

All in all one very happy bunny  :innocent:

Andy

I took my Mk 5 to the VW dealers in Harrogate, Sytner, on 26th April, and still haven't had a reposne.  I called the dealer on 10th May and yesterday 12th both times being told 'someone' would get back to me.  I called today and spoke to a lady in the body shop who told me my form and photos hadn't been sent off to VW and it would be another week.  I've sent a complaint to the manager Chris Otter and see what I get back.

VW Huddesfiled are the same group (Sytner) so I'm hoping for some good news like Boothy....I'll let you know

That's terrible service, when I took mine to Pullman VW, I had a reply within 3 days. I've just been back yesterday for some more photos to be taken and I they'll get back to me by Wednesday.
I would take your concerns straight to VW Milton Keynes (the managing director is Chris Craft I would get straight onto him - it worked for me !)

I got an email from Chris Otter usual thing, 'sorry about the poor service etc and he will look into it', that was first thing yesterday morning.  This morning I had a call to say that VW had agreed to do my wheel arches under warrenty and have booked the car in for 31 May.  I'll let you know the results.

I noticed a golf (not a GTI) in my works car park yesterday and it has big orange blotches around the wheel arches - its a private plate but guess its one of the very early ones going by the rust.  Don't let it go that far  :scared:

The boot mechanism holds water, i noticed when removing the whole lot, and water poored into my boot i hadnt washed it for 3 days and no rain so it must settle there.

I've got rust in exactly the same places. Both front arches and the boot lid under the badge. Need to visit VW this week to register my claim.

I had a similar thing with an audi S3 i'd bought privately and they did it straight away.

I havent read the whole thread yet... but is there some magic warranty extract that I can quote them that proves they have to fix it? Or is it a case that yo uhave to cross your fingers and hope to get a friendly dealer
