mine is in for new wing later this month,VW seem to have giving up fighting against their warranty obligation,I had no trouble like most people recently getting them to do the work under warranty

I cant believe this over rot on, these mk 5's there not even old i had a, p reg astra diesel 2 years ago without even a mention of rot. My 53 plate astra was spotless, this is normally a ford thing.

Clearly vw are living on old reputation. As i have found the qaulity to be ,not what i was expecting when going from vauxhall fords etc to vag, i was expecting it to be higher.

I have had mine approved aswell, its going in on Monday.

Mine went through easy, it did help I knew the bodyshop staff to exagerate the problem slightly to VW.

Do we know if there is an official TSB for is rust problem please? My wings are shot on the wing/arch, same place as everyone else is posting but I did lower it a bit too far and it rubbed! However if there is a TSB and I raise the front up I may be able to blag it!

Whats a TSB?

I've had a quote from a friend at another non vw bodyshop to repair both wings, boot lid and also to tidy up the front bumper, sills and o/s door.. £800 cash and i know it will be a job to my standard.

I'm tempted to try vw again to see if they will budge on the rust but then even if they do agree to do the work I've then got to negotiate getting the other bits done as no point taking it to a different bodyshop to then touch up a few little bits after the rust is done.

TSB - technical service bulletin, basically vw know about the problem and will fix FOC! My thinking is vw must know about this rust problem because some members are getting the fix with no questions asked!

They definitely know about the issues, even the VW body shop admitted that it is a design flaw but I've not seen any TSB'S with regards to it.

I have noticed my front wings are bubbling nicely, there is a tiny blip appearing on the sill on the step area when you open the door, and another tiny bubble from under the rubber on one of the rear windows.

What is my first port of call - my local dealer of VW UK?

Dealer with a bodyshop first. VW HQ wont do anything until they have viewed it plus they might approve it!

Had mine in with VW last week to look at the wings, and got a call today to say the will replace the passenger wing. The drivers only has a very tiny bit which wasn't really visible on the photos so not doing that one yet. Going to sit on it and go back when worse.

Was straight forward so looks like VW are accepting the issue more now

Do you have full VW service history?

Not totally, I had it serviced with them in May but when I bought the car last year it was serviced by the Indy I bought it from. Was with VW garages prior though looking at the stamps. They didn't ask me about it but suppose they can check

Your service history pattern sounds very similar to mine, I'm going to contact my nearest VAG dealer with a bodyshop and try my luck. Wish me luck!

all sounds very annoying considering what my local VW dealer told me...

They flat out refused to even submit a claim as it would be rejected as vw do not cover rust from a 'seam or edge'.. only if it pops up in the middle of a pannel.
