I could answer that question mate just had mine done an they offered me 50 percent towards tailgate but bill was still going to stand at 500 quid in would have to pay as they say boot needs replacing mate

I hope they settled on a 100% claim in the end? So did they say they were only to do 50% due to having a black VW badge or just in general? If anyone has experience re having a black badge and them kicking off let me know!

no mate mine was just standard badge and they would only pay 50% so they said it would need a new tailgate as the rust couldn't be repaired so total bill was 1200 quid with paint so paid 600 quid mate total

Just been to Coventry bodyshop today, they checked it out and said they'd only cover 50% of the cost, the remaining 50% would cost me £470!!!!

How can I get this covered by warranty? He said something like the warranty was for corrosion and this was perforation or something?

Bump...

I went to VW the other day, if they say the above, is there any way to get them to pay for 100% of the work?

Not sure but if there is I'd like to know how as I don't think it's on that they're not covering it under warranty :o(

If i end up with this issue then i hope they get changed. My mk4 went in 3 times to get the front wings repaired, as it kept coming back when it was repaired.

My warranty guy was as sound as usual. Must have moved that depth tester about 60 times on 1 of my wings to get a low reading  It was obvious it had been painted from the other depth tests but one small area around the front of the wing read low enough.

Just awaiting VW's response.

The chap I had check mine was a really decent guy. Ray A.K.A 'Rusty Ray' lol... Just was chatting about VW in general for about half hour after the depth test, seemed really genuine. Hopefully the response is as positive as I am hoping... Hope you (all the above) get it sorted!

Well just popped into my local dealers (Pullman@Sunderland) and have a feeling this wing rust fix is going to be a long long painful experience.......
The bodyshop manager came out with his paint gadget and agreed both front wings require replacing however one wing has been touched up previously and thus he will not replace under goodwill gesture, the other wing will be covered no problem.
He says the earliest i can book car in for "proper inspection with pics etc is SEPTEMBER!!!!! WTF????? then what??? wait another 3 months for paint n replace??
He also asked if i owned the car from new:No. Did i buy the car from Pullman?:No. Has it 100% full vw service history?; No it was serviced once in 7 yrs at a specialist, rest is full VW Serviced inc last year at Pullman.
This is the bit that surprised me tho; He said up to 2 months ago VW would have replaced both @100% goodwill until they changed their policy!! Wot policy?? he said its now a mechanical fault and thus as its out of its warranty then its not covered....... :surprised:
So im now preparing to be bent over and have my wallet emptied for £££ when they charge me 50% of total cost (AT BEST if they dont stall on the 1 specialist service and the other "NO" answers i gave him)..... Any good contacting VW customer Service @ Milton Keynes??? Probably not .....sigh :sad1:

Hmm , it sounds like VW have changed their policy regarding free wing replacement - my car is only 4.5 years old , my last GTI showed rust at 6 years old and I got 2 wings fitted free , if they dont fix the wings for nowt on my current car they wont get a penny off me ever again. Its rediculous that in this day and age VW can still build cars with built in rust traps - and then walk away saying 'its nowt to do wi us mate!'
