****update on my rusty wing crisis*****
Well its gone from ridiculous to outrageous now......seriously!. After 1st initial visit to the local VW dealer on June 17th, (the "bodyshop manager" said today was earliest he could book me in for a technical report to replace both wings), 3 month fobbing off period is bad enough but what escalated at todays visit made my piss boil.
Originally he stated VW would only goodwill 50% cost for BOTH wings replaced, today he states it will be just 50% on passenger wing only due to VW changing their policy once again since June visit.
Now quite clearly this fella is stalling and blagging his way thru this already laughable dilemma and its become embarrassing for both of us. After a 10 minute inspection (without camera although promised) he presented me a scruffy hand written piece of paper with £560 circled on it....... then commenced a 20 mins back and forth conversation regarding how he couldnt remember saying it would be 50% off for 2 wings and im only entitled to 50% off 1 wing etc etc.

Now heres the crunchy bit;
-He states all VW dealership body/paint technicians must now compile relevant report at their dealership pc terminal and it will automatically generate the work codes minus any good faith discount % allowed at the touch of a button (he made it sound like i should be impressed by this).

-No permission to ask VW Milton Keynes for this "green light to go ahead" verification, no VW customer service are involved in this process, its a dealership decision.
-Age of the car IS now relevant in this process, he clearly states this as a fact, so the older the car the less % discount goodwill.
-We cannot haggle or barter or beg or borrow, if the computer says no then were stuck in the proverbial so to speak.

Ive requested proper written quotation proof of this £560 "estimate" to be sent to me within the week, I plan to contact VW customer services and try and get further discount off this amount and visit another not so local competitor VW dealership 15 miles away.
VW moving goalposts?. VW reluctant to assert themselves to make a customer happy?. VW cherry picking new car owners and fobbing off older loyal used car owners?.

My conclusion is this; quite clearly this fella/dealership/VW has no intention of treating my rusty wing problem with the highest of priorities and respect that we all hope for. Im afraid this is the final nail in the coffin for me......ive been fobbed off enough and will be offering my hard earned cash to the local BMW dealers 2 miles away next year happy2:

Even with 50% off it's waaay cheaper to DIY it... I've not done the job, but I'm pretty confident it wouldn't be that difficult to change a wing.  You can get them painted to code for about £100-£150 delivered to door on eBay.

I wouldn't give the stealership the satisfaction or money.

Jonnboyy...I have exactly the same situation as you.
I have been through 2 dealerships who have taken readings, written reports etc.
I have submitted everything possible, including photos and the much banded about PDF.
It has been escalated through VW Customer Services and then to the VW Executive (who even said they had referred it to Germany...not sure I believe that).
It even reached Alison Jones, the Quality Care Director.
They are taking a hard line...50% goodwill is the best they are offering me.

It really makes me angry when I see this.

The cut off date of June is before I and other people on here got their wings done with 100% contribution!!

The automated system is a load of the brown stuff as well, the dealer went to VW UK for authority on my case. Starting to feel they made a mistake when they covered all mine.

Guys iv'e honestly had enough of it all, I genuinely thought it was reasonable of me to beg for just 50% off total repairs!! how silly am I??? reading similar posts on here doesn't make me feel any better neither, that this poor experience is not isolated to small numbers.
To make things worse my father had both his 07 polo wings done 100% free last year on my advice.......same problem as ours! Look at the sh*tstorm they are creating for us just 12 months later!!!!!?????
If firing off an email/letter to VW Milton Keynes is as ineffective as you ppl have said then they have made my final decision very very easy, aka; VW can 100% kiss my 20+yrs of proud ownership goodbye.
If VW were even vaguely consistent on this matter over the past year or so then i'd have begrudgingly accepted their bullsh*t today.

Have you tried a different dealer ...my dealer would only give me the vw factory 75% ...the other 25% comes from dealer if they think you deserve it, are loyal to that dealership then they speak to vwuk and between them they then decide how much of the extra 25% they will put up ...I got non of the 25% due to never using the dealership ..I got the standard 75% from vw ...this costs the dealership nothing ...they did tell me upto june they were doing wings for free but vw told them no more as there was too many !! You should get at least 75% so long as the wings have never been painted or messed with

Hi All,

Has anyone ever noticed small bubbling/rust spiders on there lower rear quaters?

Just bought my 2007 Edition and It has a far few of these nasty little buggers! (os worse)

I am planning on trying to get it sorted under the warranty obviously, Just wondering if anyone else has had any success with this?

P.S If anyone could send me the VW PDF on the rust issue that would be great!

pdf sent  :happy2: only covers the rust on the front wings, not aware of a pdf doc for the sills or rear boot. Your dealership should be well aware of them though

Hi all,

Been a lurker on these pages for about 6 months now, bought a 05 plate GTI with full service history with VW.

I have very serious rust on one of my arches and tail gate, with the other wing having minor but still obvious corrosion.

I would very much appreciate any advice on how to persuade VW to offer more than the 50% they have already offered, the 50% still leaves me with a bill of over £1500!

If someone could please email through the PDF document to me it would be much appreciated!

Email address: patrick.mitchell@live.co.uk

Thanks in advance!

Patrick.
