Hey folks... New to Gti ownership, just picked up a mk5 tornado red 05 plate. It has bubbling on one of the front wings, pretty bad, almost the whole arch. I'm wondering how to go about approaching my VW dealership, it'll be specialist cars VW Aberdeen. I believe there is a pdf that helps back up the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty? Anyone able to email this to me?

I would like to arm myself with the correct info before speaking to them.

Ha ha ha caught you on the dark side

You don't need the pdf as most dealers are aware ......mine just checked the paint depth with a micrometer and notified Vw and I got the go ahead day after. The sills if they are affected will be more difficult.

Hello Panda!!! Fancy seeing you here!

Have you had your done recently then? Did they ask about full service history? The sills at the bottom of the front wings are both rusted! Are these something that can also be sorted?

@Gmac make sure you check the sills (put a bright light to the gap or take a picture with your phone to see inside). If they need doing it'll be much easier for them to cost having them done at the same time.

Mine are being done next week .......sills are a nightmare as they are classed as cut and fold and has a diff warranty and a get out clause!!!

They did ask about FSH but as mine has that it wasn't an issue and technically the car doesn't need it

Yeh got the pic! I've just been busy and forgotten to reply! I'm going to approach Specialist Cars VW up here in aberdeen. A few local guys have had success, so fingers crossed!

Why do you say I'll struggle with the sills? And what do you mean by German tartan, and matching colours? Hope you're well btw!

You will struggle trying to get the sills done by Vw foc.....

German tartan= jazzy Gti trim
Matching colors = tornado red Gti plus misano red rs4 :)

I am fine busy with work though leaves me little time for much else :(

As said, you can get the sills done FOC. Don't accept anything else...

A 12 year corrosion guarantee is what it says it is... So long as it's not been modified or repaired beforehand it "should" be covered. Most dealers acknowledge this as a common defect too! The VW bodyshop I went to said they had 10 Mk5s in that week for wings, most of them having the sills done too!

Thanks Ditto! That's the sort of thing I like to hear! It's clearly corroded and isn't really anything to do with wear and tear.

hello my dad is getting a new car so giving me his mk5 golf. he said there is a coupe places where the car needs touching up like on one of the wing and where the sills are. then i come across this page. i live in taunton has any one had theres done around my area? how do i go about claiming. really want this done foc. cheers
