Just out on interest, how long did you have to wait for a response from vw? I've been waiting a month now!

Is it critial to have the ful VWSH to help to get the rust sorted?  I've just noticed both arches are starting to bubble but I didn't get the last service done at VW.  Personally I don't see why this should matter but is there something in the small print.  It seems many dealers are trying to get out of it and this seems to be a way out for them.

Cheers

Andy

Your suppose to get a paintwork check every service and that's how they get out of it unfortunately.

Mine wasnt full VWSH, it had the initial services done by lookers, then the 3rd year service was done by VWR and was still done under warranty.

Hi guys

I'm in a similar position with the rust issue,

story so far, Brought a 54plate mk5 golf, Previously a company car and all work carried out by VW, all repair work/services etc,  I recently spotted rust underneath/inside the rear boot badge slot, the front bumper had a bubble just underneath the passenger side headlight, Took it down to Leicester VW and the warranty guy came out, put the paint tester/reader on the rear tailgate and said the tailgates been repainted and now the rust can't be sorted under warranty, then went round to the front bumper and said the bumpers plastic so that can't be done either and that was that.

Yesterday while cleaning my car I spot some paint peeling off on the roof, Looks like rust but need to check properly, Also more rust on the door sills, not checked the arches yet. I wanted to know if there's anything I can do about the rear badge rust and the rest of it? I don't really know if it's been previously repainted as I've only purchased it a couple of month's ago but I'm assuming if it has it was done by VW as all other repair work was. Also do I have a case with the roof rust and door sills?

Any help would be great, I woudn't mind travelling to another dealer that may be more useful!

thanks

I haven't had my new Golf long. Very soon found the dreaded small bubbling on both front wings. Emailed local VW, had a reply next day from the service Manager asking me to bring the car in. He stated he'd need to see the car and as long as the wings haddnt previously been painted they could apply to VW.

Long story short, in the next morning, took it in, he checked it, photogrpahed it, then went onto the computer and went through the car's history very very very thoroughly for service history, warranty repairs etc. He applied to VW on the fri and by mon called me stating VW would repair as a 'goodwill gesture'.

A word of warning, I assume due to the amount of mk5's going back for this repair the service manager stated VW will not repair cars at their expense that do not have a full comprehensive VW service history.

This is my point though. Why should it require me spending money at the dealers to have the warranty work carried out? If my Samsung TV went faulty and they turned around and said "We aren't fixing it because you haven't bought any other Samsung items in its history" people would go bonkers!
If its covered by a warranty then its covered by a warranty. The VW service history should have no part in it.

Agree with you Boothy. It's not right! I was lucky the car was fully VW serviced when I bought it so I was able to get the benefit as such. I use an independent specialist to service/repair my car. I pay a third of the price, know I'm getting an excellent quality of work and not getting ripped off.

When claiming re the rust The way the service manager went through the history and humbed and hawed over it was ridiculous. Making sure every service was the correct one and whether it was bang on time/miles was ridiculous. I was made to feel like I was asking the world.

Have we any members that are solicitors or barristers and could perhaps advise on the legal aspect of this warranty cover.
The fact that rust exists on cars 3 or 4 years old has nothing to do with a car having a VW service history and more to do with a flaw in production.

My 07 car has the first signs of bubbling paint on the n/s front wing.  2 raised areas about 5mm across.
Fully checked the other wings and boot release with no signs of rust anywhere else.
I wont be going to VW to get this corrected because I hate vw dealers with a passion.
Im getting it done at a local bodyshop and sending the receipt to VW just to see what response I get.
The service schedule excuse is just that, an excuse, and a feeble one at that.

Well its taken a fair while but i have finally received a reply to my email:

Dear Mr Booth

Thank you for your email dated 18 April 2011 from which I was sorry to learn of your disappointment with Volkswagen and our
Retailers.

Due to the nature of my role I am not always able to provide a rapid personal response to individual customers. I have therefore
asked my Customer Relations Manager, David Alston to investigate matters on my behalf. Please be assured that no discourtesy is
intended by this action as I have asked to be kept fully updated.

David will contact you within the next five working days to discuss your concerns, once he has completed his initial
investigation.

In the meantime, should you have any questions, David will be happy to discuss these with you and can be contacted on 0800 083
3914.

Yours sincerely

Chris Craft
Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars

Then today I received a phone call from the Executive Office. The guy asked a few questions about how long I had owned the car, where I have had it serviced and then they have asked for a copy of my V5 which is a little strange I thought? He stated that the car is shown against another owner on there systems and they would like to update it. I'm sure they will be formulating there get out clause as we speak.

He has been passed the matter from Mr. Craft to look into and will be speaking to the dealership tomorrow before he rings me back. I really do hope VW redeem themselves and over me at least a half decent solution rather than just give me all the legal jargon crap to get out of it. Heres hoping it all goes to plan!
