Think you should send the extra bill as your body shop is a professional in the trade and will know what he talking about as he would probaly produce insurance quotes and so trusted in his field

Got an appointment at 1pm today to show them my car. Any advice on getting them to cover it or is it just luck of the draw on how helpful the warranty person is on the day?

Be polite, and to the point, but tell them it's not right and you want it sorted.

Well that was a massive waste of time!!! Polite as could be...

She took one look and said its 'seam and crease' which is not covered under the 12 year warranty.. only under the 3 yr.

I go the service manager out as well to look and had a long polite chat with them both and both said VW warranty wouldnt touch it.

Ive got customer services number but Im a bit stumped now and a bit hacked off it looks like I'll have to pay for this on my own.

And now Customer services are just fobbing me off telling me to go back to the retailer and there is nothing they can do!

Not good, how bad is the rust and where is it? On front wings and boot lid?

Yes exactly.. pretty much as pictured in everyone elses posts.

it seems a common known issue but some people are lucky and some... like me.. are unlucky and get told its not covered...

But its the same rust in the same places so why some and not others?

How bad is the rust on most of the golfs that are affected? Luckily its on the front wings which can easily be replaced

At last i have my car booked in for the front wings to be repaired under warranty!! phew thank god it goes in on monday fingers crossed its a nice job, so in total its taken about 5 months to sort out !!!!

I live on the isle of wight so im sure this wont help much but the dealer is called esplande, they refused the warranty claim to start with as the car is registered to my business i run a motor caravan garage, so after they changed address to my home address and i had a small service (even though it wasnt needed) so that the car was still on the vw data base and all upto date they agreed to cover all costs. the small service cost me £129 cheaper than the paintwork and it keeps any work carried out on the car as genuine with the dealers.

obviously being in the trade helped with the dealers going the extra mile but unless you have full service history with vw they will try and squirm and slither out of most claims.

right guys had a result on this one!!
tryed 2 months ago to get the front arches done to no avail...
tryed again last week(different dealer) and they said no problem,took car in monday and had a call to say the wings needed replacing as they are too far rotten...this is all uder warranty as per the 12years anti corrosion...car has full history,2 owners(previous)+me,125 k on the clock...if the wings have a modification or have been painted from factory i was told you dont stand a chance....

i am now worryed that the clarity of the paint will be different as the have to blend into the front doors aswell
i really hope they get all this correct as i wont accept anything less than a factory job

After getting my front arches done a while ago under warranty I noticed over the weekend that the rear arches are starting to bubble around the interface with the rear bumper section ... early 05 plate so I'm sure the rest of them will follow soon enough. Will give the stealers another go.

I saw an 04 plate or 53 plate not so long ago where there were big orange marks on the wings. Can see a lot of mk5's looking shabby before long.
