Been to the local dealership today and although they agreed it's their issue and they will cover it i was told i need to take it to a dealer with a bodyshop. The nearest one to me is Coventry, about 45 miles away  :surprised:

I had the same mate, still haven't got around to taking the journey, mines about 100 miles round trip, which I'd have to take there first for paint readings etc. so 200 miles! PITA  I've considered buying one on fleabay and fitting it myself.

....Email sent with PDF attached.

My GTI is a 05-plate and wasn't a problem. They'll want to check your wings paint thickness to check it had never been resprayed and therefore not qualified for free repair.

Red robin- my passenger front wing has been painted before and they have qualified it for a 100% repair( new wings)

....That's very unusual but I am of course very pleased for you  :happy2:

I must admit that I've never fully understood why Volkswagen have insisted on checking the paint depth before accepting a free repair - I don't see why adding paint negates VW's responsibility for the underlying rust problem. In fact you could argue that an extra layer of paint gives further protection - Unless of course the rust has already started.

....Visit your VW dealership and show them the rust. They will probably want to measure the existing paint thickness (a 5-minute job).

Be aware that this is not a normal warranty issue but something which Volkswagen are happy to do - Either repair or replace free of charge but they decide which.

So it doesn't matter how old your car is or if it's lowered.

PM me your email address and I can send you a VW internal document about it. You may not have to refer the dealer to it but it's effective backup if they plead ignorance or try to fob you off.

Hope This Helps
