MOT due
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:36:30 am »
My GTI is due it's MOT at the end of the month.

Do most people just take it to their local VW dealer? Or is it better to take it somewhere else?

Any info appreciated

Dealers are expensive for MOT. Mine is going into Kwik Fit tomorrow morning. My local one is fairly trustworthy

I always get my dealer to price match with Halfords who seem to constantly have 50% off, so only £27.

I had mine done by a local garage. Passed no problems. Reasonable price. They did list my mods under the advisory section though. Seen this done a couple times now. Not sure if this is common practice now. Never happen to me before. Luckily I have modified car insurance and all mods are declared.

I wouldn't trust kwikfit to put a tyre on properly, never mind trust them with a whole car. My vehicles all go to the local garage and he does an honest mot got £45.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

They won't be taking anything off or fitting anything so there is little chance they could break something  :signLOL:

I know a couple of the techs and they don't fit the "kwik fit stereotype" which I why I have more trust this particular garage.

I always take mine to an independent MOT station that just does MOTs. They are less likely to fail it IMO.

National tyres & autocare also always have 50% off but they always seem to fault the smallest things like headlight aim when iv checked it isnt even out.. Then they ask for nearly £20 a light to aim... Daylight robbery and a pesky way to get money off unsuspecting customers. I told the manager Id adjust them myself thanks and got it back the next day and passed without doing anything. Beware!
