You need to find out the service history of the gti as at that milage apart from the usual servicing history, it should also have its dsg service @40k miles and a cambelt change.
Without traction power is nothing!

Yes the dsg service was done at 37000 and just had cambelt and water pump done.

In that case it's really the one you think personally suits you better.

I had a similar quandry when I bought my GTI.

For me, the difference was in the quality and feel of the interior. I just preferred the look of the golf rather than the cupra.
The GTI is just such a nice place to be.
Both go and handle equally well - I think the cupra is a bit faster but the DSG on the VW makes up for that IMO.

Then there is a bit of a badge thing (to which I don't subscribe), but I recall a friend who had a cupra R. He got annoyed becoase everyone would say to him; "nice car, is it true that its a golf underneath?".

That said, I am told that the leon's hold their money better than GTI's - but I do struggle to believe that a bit as golfs have always had good residuals.

Ask on a GTI forum----------GTI :happy2:
Ask on a Cupra forum--------Cupra

I have no idea about Seats, think when it comes to resale,a Golf will always be a Golf :happy2:
A Cupra will always be a SEAT

Based on the facts the golf does hold it's value better. 52K and few months older and still selling for the same price. However it really comes down down to you as I am sure Cupra owners will have valid arguements as to why you should get a Seat.

Best of luck

I had both (an 07 Leon FR and now a Ed 30) and for me the thing that spoilt the Leon for me was the interior, hence the switch to the Golf.

(Btw the FR interior bits that dissapoint on the FR are the same the Cupra).

The interior in every Leon, or Seat come to think of it, I've ever been in just seems cheap and wrong. Don't get me wrong, there are some great cars like the Leon Cupra and Ibiza R's, but they all seem to give me the impression that the interior was an after thought?

JMO but you'll have for and against comments from both forums?

Get in both cars, drive both cars, check out insurance, Servicing Costs etc, etc and decide what ticks most of your boxes.

Good luck mate :happy2:

most forums are biased, ive never had either, but have driven both. so ill give you my unbiased opinion.

GTI has a much better interior, IMO the leon looks much better.  My problem is that every golf i come up near always looks like a GTI, until you see it has TDI on the back.  Not distinct enough IMO.

personally in your position i would have the cupra.  half the mileage and newer, with the k04 engine which is ALOT better than the k03 when it comes to tuning,

the main problem with the golf is your paying a surcharge for the badge( and maybe a better interior)

the curra has depreciated more, but comes with better brakes and a superior engine

You've got to remember that the GTI comes with the k03 and the Cupra comes with the k04.... Thats 300bhp from a stage 1 map on the Cupra..

I had the same choice before I got the eddy and only chose the Golf over the Leon because of the interior in the Leon..

I had a mk4 Seat Ibiza Cupra before the golf, great little car

Save a bit and get an ed30  :driver:

I was driving a leon today after mapping it, it just didnt feel like a quality car, after all the interior is one of the most important aspect of a car, its what you look at and use whilst driving it (something the french dont understand) and although the Seat is a very good car you will always look at that awfull dashboard and wish you had the VW.

Other than the interior, i would have the leon for the simple fact its cheaper for big power.
