History Check & Payment Options
« on: November 15, 2010, 11:53:40 am »
I am planning on going to view a GTI this Saturday which is being sold privately. I wanted some advice on:

1 – Best places to get history checks done. I was thinking on using Auto Trader’s history checker.

2 – Payment options (a lot more complicated then I first thought). Cash is too dodgy to carry around, cheque will take too long to clear, CHAPS not sure if this is an option on the weekend.

Also any other things to look out for?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I only ever use the official HPI check site, normally online or over the phone..they will also send you a certificate if you request it.

Will try and get you a link.

Regards to payment, if buying private, normally cash and take a few people with just incase, leave a deposit and come back with cash later. Never tried CHAPS or cheque so can't comment sorry.

Hope it all goes to plan, I'm looking for a GTI. Again too!  :jumpmove:

That is an option but I'm not sure about paying before picking up. Especially as the car is about 120 miles away from me. Thats why I would prefer paying via CHAPS on the same day.

But I will have to see once I have seen the car and met the seller.

Your only other options appear to be a Bankers Draft (if the seller agrees to taking one) or cash then.

I wouldn't worry about the cash too much, I'm sure your glovebox has a lock on it doesn't it?
