Hello folks. I had a milltek exhaust fitted by Dave at PDT.
I washed the car today, and noticed the rear valance was all stained around where the tailpipe is. This is only off 2 weeks of use, and has been washed weekly aswell. it wont wash off with a schmitt and zymol, looks like its going to need polish to remove it.
I thought the exhaust should have been protruding further out, but Dave said thats how they are fitted. I never had any smoke residue off my standard exhaust, but now I have. I was just wondering if people had a milltek, they would be able to check how far their exhaust sticks out in comparison, just incase it does need adjusting.
Thanks in advance for any help :happy2:

I don't have a picture of my old one but that doesn't look right.
They should be quite a snug fit and stick out around 1/2 inch past the valance so you can read the Milltek logo.

Someone will be along shortly with a pic I'm sure.

This has been an 'issue' since Milltek started welding on the tailpipes rather than having them on adjustable clamps. If it was a new system then things would have been a lot simpler but as its 2nd hand the history of the exhaust is unknown.

You have 2 options really, you can slide the centre section forward a little so that the tailpipes protrude a little more but then the hangers wont line up perfectly and they will stretch towards the back of the car slightly. The other side effect is that the overlap on the centre pipe only has around 10mm more movement towards the back of the car before the expansion gaps in the exhaust will allow gasses to leak out.

So we might be able to get another 10mm of length on the system, if you want us to try, just call the office and arrange to bring it in. :happy2:

I was only trying to find out what other peoples looked like first Dave, and got some facts before I got in touch. I know you mentioned the welded tailpipes, and the design you have on yours is much better as they stick out about an extra inch!
It wouldnt have been a problem  if I had a black valance!
Thanks Dave, I'll pop along next week after work  :happy2:

Looks like you might only need it moving back 10mm, so sliding the joints as much to the rear as you can while not overstretching the rubbers hopefully will work.

My milltek seems to grow quite a bit when it gets hot and looks like it sticks out too far so had to adjust it to sit as far in as looking ok when cold to still look good when hot!

Looks like the Back box needs turning. There are some clamping bolts at the back on the drivers side that if you slacken them off will allow you to straighten it.

Mr Stokeballon adjusted mine awhile back at a jkm meet. Took seconds to do.

Yes I remember that but couldn't remember who it was.

I have mine tucked back mate and much prefer it to them sticking out. Main reason being is that once the exhaust gets some heat into it it will expand and move out further from the valance. I had mine moved back because of this, as when I had been giving it some stick, the bloody thing nearly tripped me over  . It came a good 1 1/2" further out from the car than when cold.
I personally would leave it be, as once it's warmed up it will move out anyway  :happy2:
As for the staining, I have the same problem mate and have no idea how to get it off TBH..  :sad1: Will keep an eye on this post to see if anyone has an answer, although I think it is more of a problem on CW cars TBH..

Sounds like I might just try and move the clamps to try and get the drivers side pipe out a bit, might help even the pipes out a bit and bring them out a touch. If youre having the same troubles with the staining Ron, sounds like i might need to put extra coats of wax on the valance
Only wish I had some daylight to work in!
Thanks for the advice, and also Saint Steve for the photos, yours still seems to sit better than what mine does though :stupid:

I would like to see what Steve's looks like when it's warmed up though mate.. I know Nath's and Dan's (Tom's old ED30) are nice and flush like ours too..

And mine when it was first fitted..
