Stock 0-60 times for Mk6 Gti, ED 30, R32 pub trivia!
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:56:59 pm »
Am confused as to which VAG hot hatches are the quickest off the mark (in stock, no mods) because have read on here that the KO3 turbo is punchier lower down than the KO4, but that the Ed30 is quicker than the R32 in the dry.

Now EVO records MK5 Gti as 6.7s, MK6 Gti as 6.4s and R32 as 5.8s

Soooo if the KO4 is not that punchy low down it would follow that the ED30 is not much quicker than a standard GTI to 60mph maybe 6.6s? for a manual (slightly quicker for the DSG) and slower to 60 than a MK6 Gti? But this would mean that the bit about an ED30 being quicker than an R32 in the dry is a load of codswallop!

Please satisfy my restless mind so that I can get my VW top trumps printed up ha ha :jumping:

I think in fairness that no-one really cares about 0-60 times as they are pretty much irrelevant.

30-130, 30-70 or similar are much more in tune with real driving.

As you have the R32 as the quickest I reserve the right to change my mind though.

yeah i can see what you mean re 30-70 for overtaking but 30-130 is only going to be if you are on the track or want your licence revoked. As i said those figures are the actual times that EVO print but itake your point that most people wont care because they have mooded the hell out of their car and so stock figures are irrelevant!

0-60 times are for VXR drivers.  in gear times and intermediate speed increments ie 30-50, 50-70 etc are what count.  on a track your not always flat out, and not always in the lowest gear, and rarely launcj from a stand still.

those times you post are from a standing start, if you put a slight roll on, so the grip advantage is negated the R32 has lost its trump card

The standard GTI is quicker to 60 than 6.7. In DSG form that is.

When the Golf GTi Edition30 was anounced by VW in VW driver Mag, they stated that it was the fastest production VW yet. It wasnt untill the R36 Passat was released with the DSG combo, that it then wasnt.

So many factors, but as hedge has more or less said, R32 and Ed30 in the same transmission are about the same, unless you spend £500 on a remap, and that soon changes

I wouldn't think a ED30 is any quicker 0-60 than a R32 tbh, wet or dry. But come off a RA on to a DC (or off a bend on to a long straight) and that's where a ED30 will pip a R32.. Once mapped then game over for the .:R. But in all fairness that's not what the R is built for...
As has already been said, 0-60 is a waste of time nowadays. A Bugeye Scoob WRX for instance can do a sub 6 sec 0-60 time, but after that they are on there arse. But anyone who is a 0-60 fan will think they are rapid, that is until they get a 172 with Green wheels snapping at there heals..

VAG hothatches would include the S3 which would be quickest to 60, not sure about rolling with an ED30 though as it has less transmission loss and weighs less so might be as quick/quicker?
