Hire cars
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:51:36 pm »
Any of you had a hire car from VW before?

I got a 5-dr Golf TDI. Dunno about engine size, gotta be small. Even my mk4 fiesta was quicker. But it does have:

- highline (not bothered)
- MFSW (yeah it's okay but nothing special)
- Phone capabilities (nice)
- Cruise control (OMFG! How cool is this??!?). Rest of it was bog-standard.

Amazing how many features you still find on a mk5 non-gti too. Figured the wheel stitching was limited to only the GTI.

And it was a derv! Mpg was double for the GTI for my normal route. The only crap thing was the lack of power. There was none!

How about you guys?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I have not had a hire car from VW for a service or anything.  But my car is currently in a body shop that is either part of VW or one of their partners.  When I went into them for a quote to repair the bus damage they gave me the phone number of "their" accident repair company who are dealing with my car.  I got a like for like replacement so currently have a 2008 GTI (this one has DSG).

For servicing I normally drop off and walk into the town center for a few hours, far to much hassle to arrange 75 weeks in advance for a hire car.

The power isn't there but the spec was better than my ED30! I think a similar car would be fantastic as a second car should the need arise.

It's not Help Hire is it?

Between graduating Uni and disappearing off to Australia for a few months, I worked for them. Crap pay but best job in the world - I delivered the like-for-like courtesy cars, everything from a Kia Picanto to an M6 with delivery mileage to 911 C4S. We had loads of VW's and in was there I fell in love with DSG.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

Mile-muncher ordered: MkVI 1.6 TDi BlueMotion Match DSG with leather, winter pack, luxury pack, fogs, climate control, Dynaudio pack, RCD510 with DAB & MDI, flat tyre indicator

Dont really notice any missing option, I have them all on my GTI

No, don't think so. It has the name of the dealer stamped all over the place - doors, mirrors and the word "courtesy" in big letters. How's a Help Hire one different?

It's a TDI but I can't seem to make the turbo work. Very slow. Too slow in fact to make it back to the service dept in time (traffic compounded the problem - why is it there's always traffic when you need to be somewhere fast?). So I'm stuck with the car until tomorrow morn. Plus I gotta remember to put some derv in.

Also got heated leather seats, arm rest and a tray where the diffuser would go.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Lol when I spoke to a mate who'd had his car serviced by the same dealer, he got also got a base-spec 1.4 polo. So when the service dept officer led me to my awaiting hire car, I saw a black polo and expected that. Quite a shock when I was given a gold, even more so when it was a derv and not to mention the extra features.
