Winter tyres - you have some?
« on: November 25, 2010, 11:07:24 am »
Just fitted some to the missis's car.

Anyone thinking of fitting some to the MKV?

Anyone had winter tyres on their MKV? - What were they like?
Golf R gone.

Yep, ordered some last night. Nankang Snow SV-2. They'll be going on my old 17" Monzas.

Very much looking forward to not having to tiptoe about in this sh*t weather.

I've had 225/45-17" Goodyear performancegrip for 2 seasons, i would highly recommend them.
This season i went for 225/40-18" Vredestein Wintrac, so far an excellent tyre and only struggling at WOT.
When below 7celsius you need wintertyres so no mogging around on all season or summertyres. IMO

Over the top mod list ;o)

Dem the ones! I'd have preferred the Vredestein Wintracs but they're very expensive, twice as much as the Nankangs.

I have a friend in Norway, he fits the NOKIAN WRG2 tyres (made in finland) for 6 months of the year and rates them as the best winter tyre around. I have just ordered a set for the BMW in the hope it will actually move somewhere this year.

This may sound like a daft question,do you put winter tyres on all four corners or do you just replace the fronts ?

I really wouldn't recommend using them just on the fronts.

It would be stupid to have the front end gripping and the back end tail happy

I guess it's all to do with your priorities.

This is from someone who had driven with just fronts. Don't do it kids ;) lol
