Lower Arm Bushes
« on: November 26, 2010, 01:12:21 pm »
So my cars in for its service & MOT today and VW just called to say its passed and all is good but I have been advised there is a hairline crack in both lower arm bushes, they said it wouldn’t need replacing now and would be fine until next years service. However it got me worried so im after your advice.

VW said it would be circa £400 fitted for two new ones.

My questions are:

Will they be ok for another year? Knock on effects?

Is there an aftermarket alternative which would be better?

I maybe getting confused but is this quite a common fault and some on here have upgraded to the S3 lower arms?

Sorry im not very technical
:ashamed:

they are taking the mick, you could buy two new lower control arms from an Audi TT,  as well as a pair of poly bushes and get them fitted for that price, plus you would have a much better handling car as a result

My gut reaction was its quite expensive, I was sure I had read that the S3 or TT lower arms would fit and be cheaper.

They have advised its safe to continue driving with the hairline crack, although im a little skeptical now
