REVO DSG stage 1 in the snow

Hi everyone.

Will the REVO stage 1 DSG map improve my cars ability to get around in the snow?

Last winter it was so useless in the snow I gave up driving it. It was especially useless when trying to go up a slight incline as it kept wanting to change up and would not hold a lower gear even in manual. I live at the top of a hill.

stage 1 = irrelevant, as does stage 2 etc etc.  its your tyres and or your right foot being the issue. 

with winter tyres and my car at stage 2+ i had minimal difficulties in the past few years.

With DSG can younot keep it in manual, gear changes id have thought wouldn't be an issue as they are seamless

Sy he's talking about the DSG map. 

As far as I know the Revo DSG map will not change up even if it hits the limiter however I don't see how that will aid you. Once you've lost grip you're fooked. My method last year was to just release the brake pedal and let it do its anti-stall thing and just keep it rolling.

Alternatively don't drive it unless you have to.

Yes its the DSG map I am asking about.

Last winter I wanted to hold it in 2nd to try and power up a slope but every time it lost traction the gearbox would change up until I was not going anywhere.

As said above cant you go into manual mode and keep it in whichever gear you want ?, that's my plan anyway or wont it hold gears in manual mode if your slipping about ?

That's it. In manual when you loose traction it changes up the box to try and gain traction but you end up going nowhere.

In snowy conditions like you describe, I would use manual mode and turn off traction control (ESP).

:Turn off esp and hold the paddle in when you change to the gear you want to stay in.

I have DSG software and its much better in the snow, allows you to select and stay in the gear of choice.

My A3 was absolutly shocking in the snow, i couldn't even get it on the drive, you could just put it in D and the wheels would just spin,  the leon is much better in the snow.  i'd park the car up and get something that works when the weather gets cold.

My DSG ED30 has been unstoppable today, did Edinburgh to Manchester all driven as normal in 'D'... 

Started off in 12" of snow on a rarely used cobbled back street, first hurdle was 2 quite steep hills to the main road and then without doubt the worst conditions i have ever driven in until the snow finally cleared just north of Carlisle, drove around and past quite a few abandoned cars on the journey too!

secret to my success apart from some common sense and a restrained right foot.... Winter tyres! first time ive ever fitted any and truly amazed with how good they are!!

The wintracs are supposed to be good.

After nearly destroying the wifes Touran yesterday I will garage the gti and put some winter tyres on the Touran.

Just need some cheap 18"s.

Using 'Hankook Ice Bear W300's in 225/40/18 and got a set of BBS monzas via the classifieds here and put them on those
