URGENT - keys locked in car

One of my neighbours has locked her keys in her car and doesn't have a spare. The keys were in the ignition and she walked round the car to de-ice it and the car locked itself It's an 02 reg Golf estate.  Any easy way of getting them out?  Another neighbour is currently trying the coathanger trick and I've tried my key in the hope it may randomly work but it doesn't.

Obviously I don't want a step by step guide of how to break into a Golf posted on the net, so PM me if you know how to do it please

Sorry to hijack the thread, but should the car do this? I currently only have 1 key for my Gti and regularly let the car warm up by starting it before setting off in the morning. Should I be worried that one morning I might find the car running, locked and that I have no way of getting into it?

Usually lock doors if car is set to ''auto lock''. Usually when car reaches around 5mph.

Depends on what happened. If you don't open the driver's door within a certain time period of unlocking the car, it will automatically lock. But not sure how this was managed.

The other thing is if you press the boot release button - this unlocks the boot only, and then locks it once the boot is shut. Which is fine, unless you placed the keys in the boot!

The sensor for my rear drivers door is beefed so the interior light doesn't come on when you open that door.  Nor does it realise the door has been opened so it will autolock if only that door has been opened since unlocking the car.  Maybe your neighbours drivers door has a dodgy sensor in it as well...

After 2 hours of trying to open the car in temps of -2 my neighbours gave up and called a locksmith out.  £135+VAT and 2 minutes later they could get into their car again

Did the locksmith avoid damaging the lock?

I suspect he bumped the cylinder to open it which shouldn't damage the cylinder/lock.

Not sure how he did it.  Just saw the van there this morning but not spoken to my neighbours to see how he did it.

didnt think you could bump car locks??

There are patio locks which are "anti-bump" if you bump them, the lock breaks in the middle. Figured all locks could be bumped.
