What do you use to clean the red brake calipers?
« on: November 29, 2010, 11:29:58 am »
As per above is there a specific cleaner/fluid that I can pick up in Halfords that anyone can recommend?

Thanks.

TBH I just use Bilberry wheel cleaner on the calipers as well as the wheel. I find using a dedicated wheel brush, such as a swissvax-style brush helps to get them clean, as well as removing the wheel.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Wd40 on the calipers makes the Red paint very shiny, but avoid away from the pads

Once they are clean treat them as you would your paintwork and polish and wax them. Not only will they look great but the brake dust will wash off far easier!  :happy2:

Bilberry wheel cleaner applied with a brush as parts of a weekly wheel cleaning routine works wonders.

But if you protect the calipers and wheels properly, you don't need to keep using a brush or wheel cleaner on them. Simply aim the hosepipe (or pressure washer lance) at them and they rinse clean.

I cleaned mine with a wheel brush  and bilberry wheel cleaner rinsed and then dried. Then i masked the disk and then applied clear lacquer to bring the red back to life then left to dry. You will be really :surprised: Just to finish it all off i Then applied some poorboys wheel sealant and some wax to make it easy to clean off and job done! When it comes round to your next clean just use some diluted bilberry and rinse  Sounds alot but well worth it!  :happy2:
