Oh Thats funny, I always thought I heard strange bongs out of the blue. I assumed them to be my DPF filter light/warning, which I had disabled when my DPF was removed.
What car was this on?
Did you notice a difference in performance/economy once you'd removed the dpf?
I had a brand new A3 TDI 170 Quattro a couple of years ago and the dpf blocked every week and the fuel economy was truly terrible. I gave the car back after 3 months but then heard through another forum that someone had junked the dpf system and got an extra 10mpg and increased performance!
If this is true, it might make me consider another tdi quattro in the future but I will never get another if I have to keep the dpf!

I seem to remember that it bonged when I turned the ignition on if the temperature was 4 or below, but it's not bonging on low washer fluid, low fuel or excess speed either and, to repeat, it used to but doesn't any more. I think a trip to the dealer's computer is called for.
