Sachs Clutch with revo1
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:47:52 pm »
Seriously considering a revo stage 1 but as an ED30 owner the amount of reports on clutch slipping makes me wonder. what is the best sachs clutch to go for and how much would i expect to pay for one + fitting?

many thanks

n

even at the std power levels the clutch can fail.
When remapping, its a risk which you should try and put aside some money for.
The biggest reason to preemptively change it would be to safeguard your DMFlywheel , which can be damaged and rendered unuseable if left withj a slipping clutch.
But I know Gaz on here managed to source a new OE DMF for under £300 which is a good proposition.

imho there are several stages

1. replace with all OE components (DMF may be reused if ok)
2. replace the clutch and pressure plate but use new OE DMF       (this could be from sachs or maybe VWR etc)
3. fit the sachs (or other) SMF kit which uses a lightweight flywheel

option 2 would be best balance for stg1/2

group buy for sachs clutch and pressure plate was around £600
+ new DMF £300 (you may not need this but makes sense to change)
+ labour costs ??? (dunno but its not inconsiderable)

so if we say somewhere under 1k should get you a setup you wont need to change for any further mods.

also worth considering adding an LSD while the gearbox is off.
If doing a 'bulk' job then you could negotiate and get better value for money. (e.g. 1.5k for all clutch stuff + lsd fitted)

tbh I would not rush to get one fitted until you get an issue, but be aware if it does start to slip your DMF may be effected.

Get the map and take it from there  :happy2:
(besides if it slips you can always turn the map down to stop it slipping, then book it in to get a new clutch)

Interested in views on the standard Ed 30 clutch

Had clutch clip on mine at 25k (Superchips stage 1 done about at about 21K)

Getting Sachs clutch, cover plate and standard DMF fitted next week.  Looking forward to being able to deploy the power again!

Most people seem to think that standard Ed 30 clutch can cope with 300 BHP but I am not convinced as I ran a chipped Leon Cupra R with 260bhp for 90K miles and sold it on original clutch so I don't think I am particularly hard on clutches?
