ESP Warning Light
« on: December 03, 2010, 12:34:39 pm »
Grettings GTI folk,

Long time forum reader, however only just created a proper account today.
Has anyone had any experience of their ESP warning light coming on (amber)?

I'm off to VW later on to get the code properly read, but from searching around on the web it looks like it usually goes one of 2 ways:

- Replace some fuses, very cheap
- Replace ABS pump, very expensive...

Will let you know either way, just wondered if there was any experience in this area. Mines an 07, so out of warranty in April unfortunately.

Cheers,

Chris

I'm noticing people having this issue more and more at the moment. Seems it's generally the pump at £1000.  Someone posted recently a company who refurb it and give you a 2 year warranty for around £350.  Best of luck!!

Thanks for that.
Just got back from VW. As soon as I mentioned it was the ESP light they were 90% sure it was the pump and asked if I had a full VW Service history. Following a check, the error code came back with "G201 - Brake Boost Pressure Sensor." This is the code of doom it would seem and requires a >£1000 new pump if you get it from VW.

They didn't bother trying to quote me a price in their defence, and will call me on Monday having tried to put it through as a goodwill out of warranty gesture.

Will let you know how I get on, car is 3.5 years old has only done 27,000 miles so am hoping they will be reasonable.

i had the same problem, if your car has full vw service history get on the phone and ask for money off i did and got a shiney new pump for 500 fitted, better than paying the full £1000

Just accepted a goodwill offer of 100% of the part, and 50% of the labour with a free inspection cost. Total bill therefore around £150, which I'm happy with.
No complaining needed, so am happy with the service.

Having read the threads on HonestJohn, Facebook, here and other golf forums, the offers seem to vary wildly. I seem to have had a good result.

That is the usual rate of goodwill if you have a FVWSH. There is a lot to be said for a full history, saving a few quid here and than can cost you big in the future.

A happy ending.  :happy2:

Hi,

My light came on at the weekend - not good!  Have checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine so I guess i'm looking forward to a nice bill !  Has anyone had any recent success with VW on this re getting a discount? My car ('07 ED30) has covered 45k miles and has full VW service history..

Thanks in advance..
James

Just to update on the ESP situation.  I got a reconditoned abs unit from BBA reman with uprated sensor for £120. But you have to send your old one back. My light now has gone off :D

This is the part they give you

It goes between the pump and control module like so

Yes you send the old one back otherwise its a £150 surcharge. But you have 10 days to return it from day of purchase.

I picked it up from bba directly as they not too far from me. But they can deliver it to you too.

when i bought my car, it had the esp light brake pressure sensor problem, but the seller was clever and he put a black tape behind the cluster foil to cover the light.

Ive had mine on for like 3 weeks now.

Ok cool. Although it doesn't sound like the seller was clever! Sounds like he was a tosser! I'm going to try vw first and see what they offer.. I have full VWSH so hoping they may still be kind!

Will let you all know...

Cheers,
J
