High Clutch!
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:02:48 am »
Hi Guys
I've had my Pirelli GTi about 3 weeks now, and although I'm still getting used to it, I'm not convinced by the clutch operation.

The clutch biting point seems very high- almost at the end of the pedal's travel, and the pedal itself seems to be sitting very high; higher than the brake pedal and higher than the footrest. The car is awkward to drive smoothly in traffic and despite continuing adjustments of the seat I just can not get comfortable with it; almost having to sit too far away from the steering wheel in order to operate the clutch comfortably. The car is a 58 plate (just turned 2 years old) with 22k on it. There does not appear to be any clutch slip going on.

So, is there an adjustment that can be made to solve this? Or should the car have some kind of bush to stop the pedal sitting so high?

I would welcome your thoughts. Thanks in advance

Is this a recent change as I swear that over this cold snap, the bite point on mine has moved further up towards the middle of the pedal travel.

Mine is a 2006 GTI with 60k and no sign of clutch slip.

Just been out in mine and can confirm that the biting point of the clutch is near the top of the pedal movements and the pedal itself does sit higher than both the brake pedal and footrest.

I was obviously used to it and did not notice. I think you will find that this is quite normal.

If it helps at all, I am 6'2' and find the seating position in relation to the steering and wheel and pedals about the best compared to any other car

Hello GTIPIRELLI,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I just need to get used to it. It is very different from my old Vauxhall Ashtray!!

Hi,

Same with me - a high clutch, but you get used to it... just seems normal to me.. i rather quite like it, less pedal movement with your foot

from the responses, I am not sure if this is just a Pirelli trait or a general GTi/Mk5 Golf thing

Lol Rich unless you've changed your car since the last time I sat in it, it's a DSG.
